Mangaluru: Police find allegations against Fr Victor D'Mello false, file B report

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SB)

Mangaluru, Oct 11: In a massive embarrassment to the people involved in defaming former Urwa parish priest Fr Victor D’Mello, the Urwa police have submitted the B report regarding allegation of 'misappropriation' against the priest.

A private complaint had been filed by an Urwa parishioner in the local court, which was referred to Urwa police station for investigation.

The complainant had alleged that Fr Victor D'Mello, who is currently serving as parish priest of Our Lady of Remedies Church, Kirem, had 'misappropriated ' Rs 11 lac after 'forging' the will of Urwa parishioner Annie Pais, a spinster, and taking her thumb impression soon after she breathed her last on July 31, 2010.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Urwa SI Raveesh said, "We conducted detailed investigation into this case and found that the allegations made by the complainant were false and not valid. In accordance with the late Annie Pais' wish, the priest and the parish committee built an adoration centre and displayed her name on the marble. The parish committee needed more than Rs 11 lac for this adoration centre, and the remaining money was collected from other sources. So as per our findings, there was no misappropriation of money. Hence, we submitted B report to the court for further action."

Based on the complaint filed by Winnie Pinto, the niece of Annie Pais, a case had also been filed against Irene Lobo, an 84-year-old spinster who was a close friend of Annie Pais and was living with her for during her last years. It was alleged that Irene had transferred the amount of Rs 11 lac from Annie Pais' account to Fr D'Mello's account. Kevin Martis, the then parish council vice-president, Jenevive Mathias, the then parish council secretary, both of whom were witnesses to the second will of Annie Pais, were also accused in the case.

Based on the complaint, a report was published in section of media some months back that created anxiety among the parishioners of Urwa and also the faithful of the diocese. Investigation however reveals that the allegation may have been made purely to settle scores or slander the image of the priest.

Reacting to the development, Fr Victor D'Mello told Daijiworld, "Finally the truth has prevailed. The findings of the investigation prove that I did not do anything wrong. My heart knew this all along, right from the time the complaint was filed,”

"I am extremely pained by the allegations against me. Some people tried to defame my name. God will forgive them. I pray that no one has such mentality. God will judge everything and He will decide who is right and who is wrong. I have dedicated everything to the Almighty. The people and my community know me very well. They do not believe any false things about me. I am not interested in taking any legal action or revenge against the complainant or those who tried to defame me. I will leave everything in the hands of God," Fr Victor added.

Do not subject to the tears and curse of Priests and Nuns. They are not ordinary people. They are chosen by God. Everyone can not be a Priest or a Nun. They sacrifice worldly pleasure and serve Jesus our Lord by serving the creation of God. Congratulations dear Fr. Victor. I knew from the beginning of your innocence.

When people make false allegations against someone they do not realize the the harm they cause to the innocent person but only interested in cheap publicity. The enemies of Christians are christians and not others. I can understand how it feels to live with stigma, especially, when someone is innocent. I believe in simple truth, what we do to others will be done to us, Fr. Victor need not go for any legal remedy to restore his damaged dignity but the offender has his/her reward not in the world to come but here only.

Truth prevails…. Greedy “Winnie Pinto’s” true color revealed…… She could have spent same money and time to do the charitable work... but sad….she took wrong path and getting all these bad mouths.

If “English Daily” and “other Press’s” are genuine news publishers (whoever published this news when case filed) ….should publish this great news now along with “Winnie Pinto’s” picture…. (same way Fr.Victor D’Mello news published when case filed in August)…. And see in future don’t repeat the same mistakes of publishing self-cooked stories, otherwise, there won’t be any takers/believers of your news/stories.

Congratulations Fr.Victor D’Mello….. For you Its Great relief from mental trauma. It is really sad that you had to undergo this difficulty… But definitely, this episode made you more popular and more stronger. even if 100 Winnie Pintos come’s in your way !!!! reply is here !!!!….. We salute you Fr. Victor.

Best wishes for your priesthood journey……Continue the good work.

Truth Prevails, God protect His Servent. Some lay people always accuse priest without any reason only to spoil their name. Now all the persons who accused the priest come forward and ask pardon in public. And this is will be the proof for us all not to accuse others.

I know Fr. Victor as he had conducted pre-marital diocese level seminar for us. Good to know that cops have filed B-report. It would have been even better if Fr. Victor's name had not surfaced in this case.
Also I would suggest the central government to make all financial dealings of any person like Fixed Deposits to be digitally recorded in a safe way irrespective of the bank and it should not be so easy for any person who works at the bank to help en-cash or transfer money of a deceased person.

Hope no other person from a religious congregation has to undergo this type of mental torture/bad press, for no fault of their own. At the same time, we hope that all members of the free press/media undertake to thoroughly verify the source and content of such harmful/negative reports, before putting them to print/public domain.

Everyone knew from day one that Fr. Victor was innocent. From Aug 17, 2017 till now ..almost 2 months into this allegation, the police could not retrieve a grain/shred of evidence to convict Fr. Victor. It is very disgusting, appalling and a matter of great shame that a Christian complainant Winnie Pinto had the cheek to complaint against Fr. Victor. Winnie Pinto is a classic typical example of the several BLACK SHEEP'S we have in our Christian community who without any attrition / hesitation / remorse can dare to go that extra mile to defame priests who are consecrated and considered to be the anointed one from God. I suspect something more than this. Either she must have had a grudge against Fr. Victor or someone must have provoked her to do this. However, this is WHAT I CALL revealing ones true colours and Winnie Pinto has just done that.
