Put up portraits of President, PM, Goa schools told


Panaji, Oct 9 (TOI): The state education department has instructed all schools to put up portraits of President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The directions were issued following a recent meeting of CM Manohar Parrikar, who is also the education minister, with the heads of government departments.

There are a total of 1,748 aided and unaided schools in Goa, of which about 790 are government primary schools, 350 are high schools and over 50 are higher secondary schools, besides several other private schools.

    If such a trend continues, there should be hall/Gallery dedicated for the purpose.
    Even during our school days there used to be several photos of freedom fighters and PMs (existing/non-existing) on the wall. If the walls are of concrete blocks then too difficult to nail it!
    (Nehru's memories seem to have been already wiped out from the History)

    Way back there were photos of Gandhi,Nehru,Netaji,Patel etc in the schools though it was not mandatory. They were heroes that fought for our independence. There is no point in having photos of current leaders. The current school kids know how they look like since they see them everyday on TV.
