Indian Foreign Minister thanks Sharjah Ruler for pardoning 149 Indian prisoners


Sharjah, Sep 29 (IANS): Indian External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj, on Tuesday thanked H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for pardoning 149 Indian prisoners.

"We thank His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah for this kind gesture," External Affairs Minister Sushma said in a statement.

His Highness Shiekh Sultan had announced that "Indian nationals and others serving prison terms in Sharjah for non-serious crimes would be released."

The Ruler of Sharjah had made the announcement at a function in response to a request by Kerala Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, seeking the release of Keralites who had completed three years of their jail term in Sharjah.
