Beltangady, Sep 26: In an incident which happened at Balanja in the taluk sometime back, strangers succeeded in making a childless couple that a magic potion they had with them will help the couple to have their own offspring. In the name of portion, they fed intoxicant to the couple, and fled with cash found at their home. This incident came into the open with inordinate delay.

Purushotham Achary, resident of Atlaje in Balanja village and his wife became victims of this clever plan of the thieves.

It is gathered that Purushotham Achary, accompanied by a friend, Sathsih Devadiga, was waiting for catching a bus at Kapinadka near Tenkakarandoor on September 16 for visiting a temple. Some strangers seated in a car bearing registration No. KA 02 MC 575, stopped near them, posed some questions to Purushotham, and came to know that he does not have his own offspring in spite of repeated efforts and following various methods. They also sought details of treatments he had obtained for having children so far and told him that they are in possession of certain native medicine, consumption of which will result in his wife conceiving shortly. They took Purushotham in their car to his home, took out some bottles, asked Achary for some cumin powder, mixed it with some concoction they had prepared, and gave this medicine to Purushotham Achary couple.

Within minutes, the couple fell unconscious. When Purushotham and his wife regained consciousness, they found that the strangers had made good their escape with cash amounting to Rs 40,000 placed inside the cupboard. Achary has since filed complaint in Venoor police station. Police have begun investigation.
