Bengaluru: Yeddyurappa told to appear before police in abduction bid case

Bengaluru, Sep 23: BJP State President B S Yeddyurappa has been summoned by the police to appear for questioning regarding his connection in an attempt to kidnap case.

The former CM has been directed to appear before the Malleswaram sub-division ACP A R Adiger on September 28 at 10.30 am, where he will be questioned regarding the abduction bid of Vinay Bidre, the personal assistant to the Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council K S Eswarappa.

According to the police, Yeddyurappa’s personal assistant N R Santosh was the prime suspect who planned the kidnapping. Supposedly, Vinay Bidre had a CD which contained scenes of Santosh getting intimate with a model. He was planning to release the same, hence Santosh decided to kidnap Vinay to get hold of the CD.
On May 11, a gang intercepted Vinay’s car in Mahalakshmi Layout and tried to abduct him. However, they failed as Vinay raised alarm prompting people in the neighbourhood to rush to his rescue. The gang fled.

Vinay filed a complaint, after which Santosh absconded. On July 16, the police received a tip-off that Santosh was hiding in the former CM’s residence. Yeddurappa’s residence in Dollar’s colony was searched.

Immediately, Yeddyurappa shot back at the police in a letter to the then Police Commissioner Praveen Sood. He complained that his residence was searched without a warrant and the police were determined to fix Santosh in the case.

The police have arrested 9 people including BJP Yuva Morcha Leader Rajendra Urs in relation to the case.

Santosh and those in the gang involved in the abduction bid have been booked under IPC Sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 363 (kidnapping), 511 (offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment), 331 (causing grievous hurt to extort confession or to compel restoration of property) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy).

State BJP president B S Yeddyurappa has landed in a controversy after a video purportedly showing him telling a police officer not to harass some Hindu youths in a murder case in Hassan district went viral.
“You have already arrested 14-15 Hindu youths. A few more are being tortured. Please don't do such things in future. It won't be nice, situation in Arsikere may get disturbed, peace may get disturbed," he is seen speaking to Hassan district Superintendent of Police Rahul Kumar Shahapurwad in the video footage. Congress spokesperson Brijesh Kalappa, who uploaded the video on Facebook, accused Mr Yeddyurappa of trying to "influence" the course of investigation in a murder case. He also charged that Mr Yeddyurappa was trying to threaten the officer, who was only trying to do his job. As a public servant the BJP leader was doing a "wrong thing."
