Sonia asks Modi to pass Women's Reservation Bill

New Delhi, Sep 21 (IANS): Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Thursday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to urgently pass the Women's Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha where the BJP has a majority.

In a letter to Modi, Gandhi said: "You may recall that the Rajya Sabha had passed the Women's Reservation Bill on March 9, 2010. Since then, however, it has languished in the Lok Sabha for one reason or another.

"I am writing to request you to take advantage of your majority in the Lok Sabha to now get the Women's Reservation Bill passed in the Lower House as well."

Gandhi said the Congress party had always and would continue to support this legislation which would be a significant step forward in the empowerment of women.

She also said that it was the Congress which initiated the process of reservation of women in panchayats and nagarpalikas.

"You may recall that it was, in fact, the Congress and its late leader Rajiv Gandhi who first mooted the provision for reservation for women in panchayats and nagarpalikas in the Constitution Amendment Bills which the opposition parties thwarted in the Rajya Sabha in 1989.

"But there were later passed by both the Houses of Parliament in 1993, becoming the 73rd and 74th amendments," she added.

PM Modi and BJP know very well that 'Women's Reservation Bill' is not contentious issue like 'Triple talaq' which can bring votes.
When BJP in Haryana can take support of 'Dera Sacha sauda' even after knowing their 'Pitaji' is raping daughters in the ashram. This not enough Haryana BJP sports minister who granted Rs50 lakh to Dera know wants compensation Dera followers.
The RSS ideological parent organisation of BJP wanted everyone one to chant 'bharat mata ki jai', has no mode to rescue when every 10 minutes one women is sexualy abused. If want 'selfie with daughter' but no mode to stop abortion clinics were more than 5 lakh daughter aborted before they see the ray of light. They wanted moral code through 'anti romeo squad' and 'moral police', but don't care about the sisters in brothels forced to sell for living.
Where are the BJP Mahila morcha and militant 'Durga vahini' when some one's daughters are raped by Godman? Why they failed to get justice for those women who are widowed in communal riots? Why they didn't came to the rescue and provide legal assistance for rape victims of communal and political violences? Why they maintain silence when gender discrimination is open for same labour work? Why they act like speech impaired when BJP party president son in Haryana is stoking and shaming the the IAS officer's daughter? Why didn't Mahila morcha questioned Finance minister when they imposed liberty tax like GST on 'sanitary pads'? Where was this Morcha when women and child development minister Maneka Gandhi came under fire from Twitter users following her comment on a NDTV show ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8 where she justified early curfew for girls in hostel, saying it is needed to protect them from their own “hormonal outbursts."?
Do BJP ever thought women empowerment?

why she suddenly remembered this bill now???

reason is very simple. there is a rumour that Modi will bring this bill in Loksabha. hence she is writing this letter so that congress will get the credit of this.

    Santhu,

Modiji is a magician - he brought into action the GST that Congress didn't (that his party did not let UPA to bring into action is a different matter altogether). He brought-in demonetization that Congress had no guts to attempt. Why not one more feather on his cap ? Let him bring into action women's bill too - why you worry ??

After all our nation is progressing, in a way that Congress did not do in 70 years - what do you say ?

What do you mean no numbers ?
Even BJP is not having two third majority to ammend the constitution
If she was that much interested she could have brought the bill passing or not is different at least she could have tried and tell the ppl who all have opposed
Now talking as if she is for women
