Mangaluru, Sep 21: Congress workers and supporters from Dakshina Kannada district on Thursday, September 21 staged a protest in front of the DC’s Office against hike in fuel prices. Led by district Congress committee, the workers raised slogans while demanding the government to immediately annul the price hike.

Addressing the protesters, Harish Kumar, president, district Congress committee said, “Crude oil prices are coming down across the world resulting in the reduction in fuel prices. However, in the country, the government is seizing this opportunity to increase the fuel prices to make more money. During the Congress regime, despite high prices in international market, the government provided fuel at a reduced cost and controlled rates."

“Modi is spending time luxuriously. He is not at all bothered about the country’s development. He is does not have guts to face media. He keeps saying that he left everything for the nation. But in reality, he only left his wife and is enjoying everything in his life,” he added.

“During the time of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, our banks never faced any crisis. But now, Indian banks are facing financial crisis and the economy is in complete chaos. Demonetisation and other unplanned financial decisions have made common people to suffer,” he concluded.

Dakshina Kannada interim Congress president Ibrahim Kodijal said, “Modi led union government is only busy in discussions on Triple Talaq and safety of cows. The ministers only concentrate on controversial issues which keep them in news. Where are the BJP workers who agitated during the time of UPA government for minimal hike of fuel rates? Now, Modi government is increasing the price of fuel every day. Public will not forgive this government and will teach them a lesson very soon.”

Shalet Pinto, district women's Congress president said that the hike in fuel prices has led to increase in the prices of all essential commodities. She also lashed out over the loan waiver issue and questioned the logic behind a long list of questions to be filled in by the farmers for availing farm loan waiver.

Mayor Kavita Sanil, corporators Naveen D’Souza, Shashidhar Hegde, Sabitha Misquith, MUDA chairman Suresh Ballal, Youth Congress president Mithun Rai, leaders Meryl Rego, Lawrence D’Souza, Suhail Khandak and others were present.

Half knowledge is very dangerous. Read the following

During UPA, Government what was happening do you want to know, just for vote bank, they were put Indian economy in trouble.

Just read the secret of UPA fuel prices,

This will explain how Congress used Subsidy always as Political tool to win elections and destroyed Economy of Nation very badly.

    Year Subsidy in Crores
    2005 40,000
    2006 49,387
    2007 77,123
    2008 (before election ) 1,03,292
    2009 (After winning) 46,051
    2010 78,190
    2011 1,38,541
    2012 1,61,029
    2013 (Before election) 1,43,738
    2014 (Modi Era begins) 76,285
    2015 27,571
    2016 22,738
    2017 (till now) 7,069
    Now think, what is economics?
    Who is Economist?
    Manmohan Singh?
This Congies thrown Beggary as Subsidy during elections and people think them as Economist.
“Poor Desh ko Karz me dooba diya and that too not because of Development Project but because of Subsidy.
    Is it not shame?

Taxes currently constitute 45%-52% of the retail price of auto fuels in India, far higher than what would it be if petrol and diesel was brought under the Goods and Services Tax regime.
India’s petrol and diesel prices are among southeast asia’s costliest.
Retail prices in India and select countries as on September 1, 2017 (Rs/litre)

    Country Petrol Diesel
    India 69.26 57.13
    Pakistan 42.14 46.93
    Sri Lanka 53.47 39.69
    Nepal 61.24 46.24
    Bhutan 62.21 56.05
    Bangladesh 69.91 51.05
    Malaysia 32.19 31.59
    Indonesia 40.58 43.36
The high prices of fuel is confusing, especially when considering international crude oil prices are currently ruling at less than half their 2012-13 and 2013-14 levels.

Petrol and diesel prices ruled at Rs 68.31-73.16 and Rs 48.63-55.48 a litre respectively in 2013-14 when the price of Indian crude basket averaged at the staggeringly high level of $105.52 a barrel.
However, retail fuel prices still remain at the same level, though the price of Indian crude basket has fallen to below $47.86/bbl since then.

While international prices have fallen sharply from an annual average of $105/barrel in 2013-14 to $46/ barrel in 2015-16 and 2016-17, the Centre has hiked excise duties on petrol and diesel over nine times.
Excise duties annually raised from the petroleum sector increased from Rs 77,982 crore in 2013-14 to Rs 2,42,691 crore in 2016-17. Annual revenues from excise duties grew at 27% in 2014-15, 80% in 2015-16 and 36% in 2016-17, rising from 0.7% of GDP in 2013-14 to 1.6% of GDP in 2016-17. This substantial additional revenue mobilisation has enabled the Centre to balance its budget without making much effort to raise direct taxes.

The economic logic was that market forces should determine fuel prices and not the government. But the NDA government has taken away benefits of low oil prices from consumers, acting against the very logic propounded for the deregulation of the retail auto fuel market.
    Create awareness instead protest.

In the International Market Today's crude oil for a barrel is $51 (One Barrel is 200 litres). Now todya's petrol price is Rupees 71.50 per litre.

During the UPA period crude oil was $149 per barrel and at that time U.P.A sold at Rupees 79 per litre.

All the tax paid money of citizens is going to suit-boot citizens squeeze and Loot. Bhashans are all Jhoot. Chaaiwaala's BMW car consumes more petrol.

Where is Alphons???!!! Will he refrain from taking subsidised food in the parliament canteen because he is rich and can afford hotel food.
