Amjad Ali Khan, sons honoured in Los Angeles

Los Angeles, Sep 20 (IANS): Renowned sarod player Amjad Ali Khan and his sons Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash, who play the instrument too, were felicitated at the coveted Global Music Awards under the Gold Medal category here.

They were honoured last week for their outstanding contribution to the global music industry and excellence in the classical music sphere.

The honour was bestowed on the three in correlation with their album "Peace Worshipers", which released in July, by Affetto Records and distributed by Naxos.

The award was presented by Mark Sutherland (Editor, Music Week UK) and Sat Bisla (President and Founder, A&R Worldwide) in the presence of other music industry executives.

Interestingly, they are the only Indian classical artistes to win an honour at this platform, which brings global music partners and industry forerunners together to discuss and exchange ideas, trends and a range of other topics.

"Every award is an acknowledgment of an artiste's musical journey. Though the journey is new everyday. Very honoured," Amjad Ali Khan said in a statement.

Amaan said it's a great honour for "our genre of music".

Ayaan said the honour is a blessing for the album. "I hope that the message of togetherness and unity is conveyed to the world though 'Peace Worshippers'."

"Peace Worshipers" is a collaboration between Amjad Ali Khan, Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash and the distinguished American violinist Elmira Darvarova.
