Mangaluru, Sep 18: An Engineering student from Bengaluru drowned at Panambur Beach on Sunday, September 17.

Shahicharan (20) is the person deceased. He studied at PGS IT College in Bengaluru. He hailed from Andhra Pradesh.

A group of students had come from Bengaluru on excursion. When they were playing in the sea, giant waves hit Shahicharan and he drowned. His friends tried to save him in vain.

It is said that the students came to Mangaluru by bikes and cars. They came to the beach after searching the place in the internet.

    So much sadness. It is preventable. Do not go into the ocean, beach or waterfalls during the monsoon seasons or after heavy rains. Riptides and undercurrents will carry you out into the sea no matter how strong a swimmer you are. Rivers currents can suddenly increase days after heavy rainfall upstream, and carry you downstream no matter how good a swimmer you are. Rocks and sediment may become slippery and loosen from their foundations during and after heavy rains, causing slides or collapses over the falls. or from higher terrain.

    I have seen outstation students when I stopped them say Mangaloreans don't know how to swim at seas, so you are afraid of seas.
