People owning vehicles not starving, can afford fuel: Minister Alphons

Daijiworld Media Network - Thiruvananthapuram (SP)

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 17: Alphons Kannanthanam, union minister, commented that people who own vehicles are not starving and can afford to buy their fuel. He passed this remark when trying to justify the government's stand over frequent hike in fuel prices for which it has been getting flak from people, particularly vehicle owners.

"Just think who buys petrol. Obviously someone who owns a two, three or four-wheeler. A person who owns vehicle cannot be starving. People who have the means to meet the cost of things have to foot the bill. It is as simple as that," he added.

The minister added that the government's major concern is to achieve welfare of neglected classes of people in rural areas who need electricity, houses, and toilets.

"We need funds for these purposes and you can be rest assured that the government is not robbing this money from you. It is used for welfare activities," he clarified.

The minister said that taxes are levied to provide facilities to the poor. He added that the government has to tax those who can afford to pay, to improve the living conditions of poor people and enable them to live a dignified life.

It may be noted that people are angry over steep hike in prices of petrol and diesel since the government announced daily revision of fuel prices.

Same politicians enjoy food from parliament canteen for lower late, despite they can afford food from five star hotel or any other restaurant.
same way they impose on people to sing national anthem and national patriotic songs in cinema halls and schools. but they fail to implement in their own government offices, parliament & Judiciary courts.

I think still there is room for increase in petrol and diesel prices.

Since there is aadhar card linking pay the subsidy to poor people...

What a stupid comment to make from a respected man, member of the cabinet of ministers. Highly irresponsible and in-sensitive. There is absolutely not connection between "Starvation and Fuel Price"
Let him be sent to some Gau Shaala and tend to the herd. He will get better ideas how to recycle fuel.....

Yes, they were starving four years ago when the entire BJP gang ( Sushma, Gadkari, Smriti, Jaitley etc etc) was on the streets with Gas cylinders, cooking post and brooms, protesting against fuel prices.................... Now with your recently acquired gyan, you are coming with another useless technical failure answer.

So you struggle to educate yourself to earn and slowly try able to buy a cycle then maybe a two wheeler. It is your own poor to middle class struggle that has given you this.

Then you are very easily punished by such super generous monisters who want your hard earned money to subsidise their vote banks in the name of up-liftment with any unjustified tax and subsidy and surcharge!

People who have their hands filled free of charge will always have their hands held out. Is there anyone that does not like a free lunch?

Seventy years of the same excuses.
Looks like seventy more are to be expected.

Affordability of people doesn't give you right to loot. Remember that first.

Yes. Government needs funds for development. You have more than enough tax collected from people. What are you giving back to the people other than security by way of military ? There is no social security in our country like developed countries. No details given as to where the tax money is spent other than annual budget. But, what about actuals ? So, stop the excess loot in the name of taxes on petroleum products. Else give permission to states to import fuel directly & retail it. You will see the price difference.

We don't need idealistic statements. We need realistic facts.6464
