Bengaluru: Two Europeans arrested for ATM cards data theft

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (EP)

Bengaluru, Sep 16: CID police have arrested two foreigners for stealing debit and credit card details of customers by installing skimming units and mini cameras in ATM kiosks.

The international cheaters are identified as Dan Sabian Christian (40) from Romania and Mare Janos (44) from Hungary.

They used to obtain secret codes of customers from some ATM machines of Kotak Mahindra Bank, City Bank and Canara Bank. The arrests were made following complaints by some customers.

Both have confessed that they had come to India only with the intention of stealing information from debit and credit cards.

“Skimming instruments, computers, memory cards and other items have been recovered from them,” said CID director general Kishore Chandra in a news conference on Friday, September 15.

Both the accused, who arrived together on September 1 to India for the first time on tourist visa, were planning to fly to United Kingdom on September 19.

A classic example of how foolproof security systems we have in India. Imagine, even the Europeans know how to create/forge transactions of electronic transactions. Reason? Because our technology has gone viral. We have outdated machines which can easily be pilfered by any Tom Dick or Harry and everyone knows how techno savvy we are. .

Another important feature ... we are miles away from adapting to our latest technology because we do not have an allocation of budget for such things. The current technology which we have on our ATM machines across the country have been DONE AWAY WITH several years ago in the foreign countries .. The pilfering, stealing debit and credit card details, skimmers whatever you call is a kids toy / play game. Need to say more?

The sooner a drastic change to curb this takes place, it will be for the betterment of all.
