6 naval personnel detained for 'drunken' squabble in Goa


Panaji, Sep 15 (IANS): Six Indian Navy personnel have been detained in a town 35 kms from here, for creating nuisance allegedly under the influence of alcohol at a bar and restaurant late on Thursday.

Police said, that the six persons, attached to INS Gomati, a Godavari class guided missile frigate, were detained by personnel attached to the Vasco police station, after they got into a squabble with the management of the Anand Ashram restaurant in Goa's port town of Vasco.

Speaking to IANS, Police Inspector in-charge of Vasco police station Nolasco Raposo said that the six personnel had been sent to a state-run health facility to verify whether they were under the influence of alcohol.

"We have sent them for examination for now," Raposo said.

The naval personnel detained have been identified as Pradeep Noutiyal, 33, Ashish Kumar, 28, Sanjay Kumar, 32, S. Choudhury, 30, Manvendra Singh, 24 and Amit Chandra, 28.
