Udupi, Sep 3: Women's wing of Congress on Saturday September 2 staged a protest against the alleged misbehaviour of BJP council members during Udupi municipal general body meeting recently.

Addressing the protestors, Congress leader Amrith Shenoy said, "The council members of BJP are behaving as if fish without water. By hook or by crook, they want power. Even if they are given power, the only ruling class will be the upper caste, unlike Congress where even SCs and STs can become president and vice-president. Congress is an example of transparent administration which is not tolerated by BJP."

He also said that the people of Udupi will 'teach a lesson' to BJP in the next elections.

Veronica Cornelio, president of Congress women’s wing said, "People of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district are known for their good behaviour and intelligence but the BJP members have spoilt the name of the coastal region by their actions. In the last 20 years, no such incident was reported in which a municipal council president was abused. BJP speaks about respecting mothers and women. Both the president and the vice-president of our council are women. Where was their respect for women in this case?" she questioned.

She also advised Kota Srinivas Poojary to teach BJP members how to behave inside the meeting hall.

Protestors condemned the act of BJP council members and shouted slogans against Mahesh Takur, Raghupathi Bhat, Yashpal Suvarna and Shobha Karandlaje.

Janardhan Bhandarkar, Yuvaraj, M M Gafoor, KPCC member and members of Congress women block participated in the protest.
