Mangaluru, Aug 29: Mayor Kavitha Sanil and Youth Congress President Mithun Rai, on Tuesday August 29, inaugurated the taluk level volley ball tournament here at Mahatma Gandhi Centenary Composite PU College Bondel.
Addressing the gathering, Mayor Kavitha Sanil said, "The government has stressed on sports along with education. Today students are gathered here to play the volleyball tourney on the auspicious National Sports Day. I can proudly say that MGC Bondel has a biggest playground and students here are utilizing this ground to its maximum. I urge students to play this tourney a spirit of sportsmanship, by focusing on the game and accepting the referee’s decision in sportive manner. Participation is vital for chances like these that would come again in the future.”
Youth Congress president Mithun Rai said, "I can see unity among students in this tournament despite the drizzle. Along with the education, interest for sports is also important. The college is giving you the right platform to showcase your talents and utilize them to the utmost.”
Tournament was held in two distinct categories - male and female. A total of 17 colleges participated in the male category and seven colleges participated in female category.
