Mangaluru: Mar Thoma Syrian Church to celebrate silver jubilee on Aug 27

Mangaluru, Aug 23: Mar Thoma Syrian Church here in the city will celebrate its silver jubilee on August 27.

Addressing mediapersons here on Wednesday, August 23, K John, member of the church said, “Mar Thoma Syrian Church members had been conducting Sunday worships at different locations until 1996 because of lack of their own church building. This year, 2017, is very important to the history of our church as we are celebrating the silver jubilee. The valedictory function will be inaugurated by Ivan D’Souza, chief whip of Karnataka Legislative Assembly. Rev Dr C L Furtado will bless the occasion. Silver jubilee members will be honored by former vicar Rev Gigy Thomas.”

Vicar Rev Abraham Varghese said, “We are functioning a student centre which guides and counsels students who come from Kerala. We also provide shelter for the needy, help for poor students’ education, organise blood donation, and visit patients at hospitals and old age homes etc. Everything is being managed under ‘Good Samaritan Fund’. We thank the almighty who has blessed us in all our ventures.”


Vice president Mathew Philipose and secretary K Mathew were also present.
