After UP, 3 children at Chhattisgarh hospital die due to lack of oxygen supply

Raipur, Aug 21 (Deccan Chronicle): Three children died on Sunday allegedly due to lack of oxygen supply at Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital in Chhattisgarh's Raipur city, an allegation refuted by the hospital authorities.

R Prasanna, Director, Health Services, told ANI that the children died due to illness.

“Yesterday there was a drop in oxygen pressure, there was no cut in oxygen supply. CMO & Supt. immediately intervened, sorted the issue. Deaths of children are due to illness, information will be shared shortly,” Prasanna told ANI.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Raman Singh has ordered a probe into the death of the three children.

The deaths in Raipur comes days after more than 70 children were killed under similar circumstances at Baba Raghav Das Medical College Hospital in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.

While more than 60 children died due to alleged disruption in liquid oxygen supply at the hospital, the rest of them died due to encephalitis.
