Mangaluru: Devadas Kapikad stresses role of teachers during ‘Gurukula Utsav’

Mangaluru, Aug 21: “No achievement in cultural sector is possible without the blessings of a teacher. The blessings of teachers for a person to be a good artiste is essential,” opined Tulu film artiste Devadas Kapikad.

He was speaking after launching ‘Gurukula Utsav 2017’, held by the department of Kannada and culture under the aegis of Mantra Natyakula Gurukula, Ullal at Don Bosco hall Mangaluru on Thursday August 17.

“Classical music and dance are soothing to mind. Many people in the past were deprived of it due to lack of opportunities. But parents are encouraging children now. They can be good artistes by learning art through good teachers,” he said.

Shantala Natya award winner Ullal Mohan Kumar speaking after setting in motion cultural programme said that it was possible to mould innumerable dancers with the blessings of teachers. “Teachers who teach Pandanalluru form of Bharatanatya should teach the art within the purview without deviating from the basics,” he said.

Dakshina Kannada district Sahitya Parishat president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura presided over the programme.

Guest artistes Shib Narayan Banerjee Kolkata performed Odyssey and Saurao Rai Kolkata performed Kathak dances.

Director of the organization, Shravan Ullal welcomed. Sudhaker Rao Pejavar compered the programme. Secretary Kiran Ullal proposed vote of thanks.
