Bengaluru: Survey predicts Congress victory in 2018 Karnataka Assembly polls

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Aug 20: In what should come as a pleasant news for the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government and its high command, not to mention Congress supporters, a pre-poll survey has predicted that the ruling party in the state is set for another term in office.

C fore, which has conducted one of the first pre-poll surveys in the state ahead of the Assembly elections in 2018, predicts that the Congress will be back in power with a majority.

The survey was conducted in Karnataka between July 19 and August 10, 2017. Systematic random sampling methodology was used in selecting respondents for the survey. In all, 24,679 voters were interviewed from 165 Assembly constituencies covering all the districts using a structured questionnaire. These respondents were spread across 340 urban and 550 rural locations in the state. Care was taken to ensure that different castes and communities were represented in the sample in their actual proportion, C fore said.

The survey revealed that Congress may win 120-132 seats out of the total 225, while the BJP, which has set its eyes on winning at least 150 seats, is likely to get only 60-72. The JD(S), as expected may have to be content with 24-30 seats, while the rest will probably go to others.

In terms of vote share percentage, Congress is likely to grab 43 percent of the share, with BJP second at 32 percent, JD(S) 17 percent and the rest 8 percent.

In coastal Karnataka, however, the survey predicted that it is the BJP that would have the upper hand, with a likely win of 14-16 seats, while Congress would be second with the likelihood of bagging 8-10 seats. In the last Assembly elections, Congress candidates scored a massive victories in both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.

A majority of the Congress victories would come from Old Mysore region, while for BJP the Bombay-Karnataka region would bring the most share of wins. JD(S) too may win most of its seats in Old Mysore region, the survey states.

A gender-wise voting survey revealed that more number of women (46%) were likely to vote for Congress than men (42%). The trend would be reverse in the case of BJP (women 29% and men 33%) and the JD(S) (15% women and 18% men).

The survey also took people's opinions on populist schemes launched by the current state government. The 'Anna Bhagya' scheme turned out to be the most popular, with 79% of the people surveyed ranking it the number 1 scheme. Midday meal came second and 'Ksheera Bhagya' was ranked third.

Drinking water shortage, bad roads, absence of garbage disposal and unemployment along with electricity issues were the biggest problems plaguing the constituencies according to the people.

Asked how satisfied they were with the present Congress government in the state, 53% said they were 'somewhat satisfied' while 18% said they were 'extremely satisfied' and 29% said they were 'not satisfied'.

In the survey, Siddaramaiah emerged as the most popular chief minister with a share of 46%, while former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa of BJP and H D Kumaraswamy of JD(S) getting 27% and 18% of the share. Again, 46% of the people surveyed said they want Siddaramaiah to lead the state again, while only 27 percent wanted Yeddyurappa to take the reins while 17 percent wanted Kumarswamy to become the next CM.

Also, 44 percent of the people surveyed felt that the current Congress government is functing better than the previous BJP government.

    Siddharamaiah the Great.

Election promises were all met by the Congress. Hence people of Karnataka trusted him. I had full hope that the congress will remain in power because of developments of the congress in Karnataka.

FOR ME NO NEED TO SEE THE SURVEY.
People of Karnataka have already made up their mind to vote Congress with that after seeing the poll BJP's have all depressed and have stress.

Congress delivered what they have promised to Humans.
BJP's have promised to Humans but they never implement anything except cow, cow and BOW, BOW.

After seeing the poll survey they say congress WAW, WAW.

The people of Karnataka cannot be fooled by Jhumla Politics. The present Govt provided a Stable and Able Administration and ensured allround Peace, Harmony and Develoment. The people have realised the vitiated atmosphere in the country and the need to insulate Karnataka from such confrontationist Politics so that all sections of society can be pool in to bring all round development. The country is also in dire need for a strong opposition and Karnataka will take a lead in this regard.

No one will trust on any sort of pr-pol survey. All these are political money game with the help of corrupt media. For an fair and clear verdict we all require Ballot poling system instead of EVM electronic voting machine. Else it will be same like UP, just bluff with and cheating with citizens.

Survey says they conducted survey in 185 constituencies and gave result in 224 which is more a magic than logic...

.1.Sidharamiah will most likely form his own party in karnataka ...remember the noise he makes in Bangalore about Kannada.I see this being engineered by the BJP/devegowda in the background.
    2. Yeddy and his joker gang will be put behind bars and will languish in jail ..This again will be done by tacit understanding of siddhu, shah and devegowda.

The congress had "garibi hatao" slogan for many decades. Yeh kaisi garibi hai jo hatne ka naam hi nahi leta?
Since the 80's congress gave us the "secularism" slogan which still continues. Still the party had no problem tying up with Indian Union Muslim League in Kerala; or plans to make Nagaland a Catholic State; or killing of Sikhs in Delhi; or negating SC verdict in Shah Bano case or banning Salman Rushdie to please the Muslim community; and for that matter even raking up the Ayodhya issue in the 80's. Yeh kaisa securalism hai bhai? Jo hinduavo ke khilaf bole, voh secular; jo musalman / eesai ke khilaf bole voh communal?

And in 2004, when Sonia refused to taken on the PM office and installed MMS; I sincerely admired her actions since I was a big fan of MMS when he was the finance minster under PVN Government; but alas all the goodwill was eroded when a new scandal started coming out of the cup-board each passing month.

Now we have Modi who talks about digital India, swatch bharat, beti-bachao desh bado, demonitisation, etc. etc.

If you did not have problem with Congress's hallow promises; why do you have any issue with Modi's promises?

As the Karnataka assembly elections closing in with this pre-poll survey my worst fears will be revival of communal tensions
It is very well known fact that prior to any major elections for state or Central elections there is sharp rise in communal tensions orchestrated by BJP and its Sangh Parivar outfits. BJP is the only party which benefited from such communal violence which sends troops of 'hate orators' to instigate the voters further.Unfortunately no party in India know how to counter the BJP communal agenda. If they do so they will be tagged as minority appeasement or else anti national.

The Amit Shah led BJP has already carried out three surveys from private agencies in state. It has also set up 5000 Whatsapp group in 2hich 25 groups for each district will be doing negative publicity of ruling Congress.
    Don't for Congress;
1.Do not make point of Modi bashing in its election speeches by any leader. BJP always wanted negative publicity to woo the voters.
    2. No special treatment for majority or minority which can help BJP in publicity.
3.Raise the corruption issues of BJP repeatedly in public and print media by debut BJP government.
4.Question the BJP links with RSS in running the government in center.
5.Create awareness among voters about BJP's election promises in 2014 manifesto , rebranding of Congress projects into BJP and familiar of projects.
    6. Don't reply the BJP questions. But counter question with question. BJP don't want debates which exposes it reality.
    7. Keep all the disgruntled Congress workers together and work as a team.
    8. Don't allocate a ticket to corrupt and criminals.
    Don't for Kannadigas;
1.Please ensure that all eligible voters are registered.
2.Bring negative social media campaign to law enforcement authorities notice.
3.If parties offer money accept it. Make a video and broadcast it .
4.Avoid communal gathering were small friction or hate speech can turn to violence.
5.If know your local candidate is criminal don't vote for him.

It is absolutely a paid and wrong survey. It will be a hung assembly and once again appa makkala party will emerge as kingmaker. It will decide the course of appa makkal party and its future in karnataka which at present is fighting for survival. The new leash of life to Congis and Nidde is due to wrong decision of appa once upon a time or of both appa and maga combine to cling yo power and matchfixing after demonetization for want of funds.

In the Municipality election in West Bengal, how many BJP got?

If this party is not wiped off from India, India will be sinking and waking up in Somalia. Modi when came to Kerala for the election rally, saw Kerala as Somalia, but never apologized for that highly wounding everybody in Kerala. At the next visit to cut the ribber of the metro train in Cochin, he was praising the Somalia for her religious harmony-literacy rate and health care.

Arun Jaitly's strategy to swallow Kerala into the Presidential rule after visiting one RSS soldier's family and to deliver personal condolence; but it was terribly backfired. Kerala showed to the whole nation that the holy land of the birth place of the savior of India is behind Kerala in everything. Then what kind of Somalia is Gujarat?

LoL...... you are focusing on BJP coming second in WB state where the party had not hopes even 2 years back. The real news from that polls is that Congress and Left have been wiped out of the state map.

Everyone seems to be engrossed on one thing in every election in the recent past as to whether BJP won or lost. It is ironic that every Congress supporter seems to consider BJP's loss as their victory while conveniently ignoring that Congress seems to be just losing every election held since 2014 (barring Punjab).

    Hey Rajesh.
I am a neutral political observer; and since you seem to be an ardent Congress supporter, could I ask you one question?
    - What exactly do you see in Rahul Gandhi that you seem to be glued to Congress?

Please make no mistake of calling me a BJP supporter. If I was a voter in Punjab, I would have definitely voted for Capt Arminder Singh since he is an able and competent leader. In Karnataka, I do not have any particular liking to Yeddy either; and to tell you frankly Siddhu has done a decent job (within the constraints of Congress's current state of affairs).

But what exactly do you see in Congress at the Central level? All I see is a claim for entitlement by the No. 1 dynasty of India as if the country owes Rahul Gandhi the PM's Office. Could you think of any CEO in the world where is company incurs losses after losses and losing deal after deals and still continue to hold on to his position? If such job security isn't called entitlement or nepotism, what is it?

Apart from Arvind, Manish and a few more leaders the AAP hardly have any known faces. AAP are still an infant party. They do not have an all India presence as yet and therefore cannot make any nation wide impact. They even lost recently in Punjab very badly.
It is better to stay away from AAP simply because they would only cut into the Congress party votes thereby indirectly helping the BJP because it is mostly liberal and secular minded people who are likely to vote for AAP or JD(S) as an alternative to the Congress party.
Apparently it seems now that BJP supporters realize they cannot get enough voters to vote them to power in Karnataka so their next best option is to advise such voters to vote for the AAP under the pretext that they are an honest party so that it would benefit the BJP by reducing the Congress party's votes. So guys, don't fall for the AAP because it just a trap to make the Congress lose. It is now a toss up between the Congress party and the BJP in Karnataka. The BJP only considers Siddu and the Congress party as their main challenger in Karnataka which is why they will target the Congress only. Voting for the lesser of the two evils is what it has come down to.

Siddu's Anna Baghya and other popular schemes are supporting lots of poor people and perhaps these people will return the favour by voting him...real reason for these popular schemes is to put a smoke screen on corrupt practices of CONgress...

This survey is conducted in 165 Assembly constituencies and their prediction is for 224 assembly constituencies!!!...

What I can say here with clear conscience is both CONgress and BJP are selfish and corrupt and don't deserve your votes...we need a third alternate party (not JDS) ....an honest party like AAP...

6.Wring economic policies caused PSU banks working and stressed loan ACS on increase. by March 2017 NPAs in banks may cross more than 20 pc if no corrective measures are initiated.

Senior citizens, middle class and the poor are the ones who are most badly affected by Modi government's failed policies. Eminent economists still cannot understand what the Modi government gained by demonetisation. Slowly, slowly the truth is coming out and the government is trying their best to fudge and cover up the real figures to hide their failure. Apparently all of the demonetised cash has come back to the RBI so where have they found black money ? Digitalisation in a country with such a high percentage of illiterate is just a mirage. Counterfeiting still continues. Terrorist funding still continues. Watch this week's NDTV's Truth vs Hype programme on 'Decoding the Notes Ban Tax Surge' anchored by Sreenivasan Jain.

It is too late for the BJP/NDA government to reverse the damage done as there are just two years to go for the next LS polls. However, the BJP leaders instead of taking corrective action are still blowing their trumpet and not even acknowledging their wrong policies but instead spending time in TV studios just passing the blame to the Congress party. Did the public vote for the BJP to perform with positive results or just to keep blaming the Congress party for five years ?

If BJP wins Karnataka ever again, kannadigas have no moral right to say they are against corruption.
The corruption what happened in Karnataka was unprecedented in history and it was grandly evidenced. No political party could dare to smuggle millions of tonnes iron ore confiscated by Lokayuktha. But, BJP did. People know each of the BJP leaders for their corruption.

The corruption or scams anywhere or else where is so not so much grandly evidenced like this. Till date nothing has come out from 2G, Coal Gate, CWG, Vadra etc., despite Modi n BJP in power.

For karnataka if the options are BJP, Congress and JD(S), there is no doubt congress should emerge as better alternative.

Forget this survey, Mr. CM himself directly predicted that in the 2014 Loksabha polls, Congress Party will win 21 Loksabha seats. But the result doesn't even reach the double digit......

So this survey is good for self satisfaction.

..its too early...election heat not started yet..BJP always catching up in last leg..recent Assembly elections proven this..yes, present state BJP leaders are totally useless..no one will vote if these faces once again come up during next election..we can expect a overhaul..MODI/SHAH wont let Congress win Karnataka..there are disgruntled senior Congress, there is JDS (HDD will team up with MODI for sure).
