Udupi, Aug 20: One person was killed and three others sustained injuries after a tempo rammed into a stationary truck on the national highway way at Yermal here on the night of Saturday August 19.

The deceased has been identified as Madhav Laxman Karali (40), a native of Maharashtra.

The tempo carrying fish was plying from Mangaluru to Malpe when its driver lost control and rammed into the truck that was parked beside the highway.

A few other trucks were also parked and their drivers were standing around talking. The impact of the accident was such that the truck moved forward and hit another truck, and Madhav who was standing close got crushed between the two trucks and died on the spot, it is learnt.

Two other truck drivers who were at the spot sustained injuries and the driver of the tempo was also grievously injured. The locals who rushed to the spot admitted the injured to a hospital in Udupi.

Vehicular movement on the highway was affected for sometime due to the accident. The police and the locals together worked to restore the traffic.

    Unfortunate incident.
There are lots of trucks parking in side of roads with No hazard lights nor rear break lights,
Just notice the nonsense happening between Panambur & bikampady highway stretch.
No Policies are bothered the way the trucks are parked, WHy? because department gets their hafta from these lorry drivers or the agents in the panambur stretch

"The tempo carrying fish was plying from Mangaluru to Malpe when its driver lost control and rammed into the truck..."

Just imgagine if the driver lost control near where many people were standing!

Almost certainly the driver who lost control is under 30 years of age, and in a great hurry to get to his destination.

Fortunately more people were not harmed.

Want to be safe? Never get into/on a vehicle driven by someone under 30 years of age.

This mistake of truck drivers who park their vehicle on low speed lane of national highway.. what is the use of highway patrol vehicle. they only park their car and sleep.. and no street lights on higway makes it difficult for drivers to drive at night with rainy condition.
