Spreading Indian tradition Down Under: AMKA celebrates first Choodi puja in Melbourne

Melbourne, Aug 18: For first time in Melbourne, Australia, Shravan month Choodi puja was organized by Amchi Melbourne Konkani Association Inc (AMKA), a not-for-profit organisation, on Sunday August 13 at Paradise Indian restaurant in Wheelers Hill Victoria, Australia. Group of Amchi ladies celebrated Choodi puja in a traditional way.

President of the group Shweta Pai Mundashi in her short speech said, "We should honour our language Konkani, its traditions and culture. Members of our community should mingle with each other and spread love and togetherness. We should also guide our next generation its rich culture and traditions."

Vice-president Ameet Bhat propagated about Konkani culture and suggested ways to improve it by giving it more importance and to organise more regular gatherings and events in the future.

Office-bearer T D Pai was honoured on the occasion. He said that by speaking in Konkani, people can take this language forward through generations and keep it alive.

There were 45 members present on the occasion.
