Mangaluru: Bright chance for Shobha or Nalin to become Union minister

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Aug 19: At a time when decks seem to have been cleared for making Ramanath Rai representing Bantwal constituency the state home minister, the news making the rounds indicate that BJP is actively considering the prospects of elevating one of two MPs from the coast, Nalin Kumar Kateel who represents Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency, or Shobha Karandlaje, who has been elected from Udupi-Chikkamgaluru constituency, to the post of union minister.

This is being thought as a strategy to effectively counter the move of the Congress to make Ramanath Rai from the coast the state home minister. This idea is said to have been mooted by BJP national president, Amit Shah, to offset the power imbalance caused by Rai's shift to home, which is one of the most important ministries.

Congress has of late been aggressive in tackling BJP, considering that assembly election is just a few months away. It has been trying to dilute the dominance of BJP in coastal districts of Karnataka by taking strong action against leaders who are involved with incidents of disturbance. Ramanath Rai, who is a bitter critic of Sangh Parivar, is being made home minister. BJP, which has been closely following these actions, is said to be preparing to foil the Congress plans of wresting the initiative in coastal Karnataka.

Sources said that during the recent discussions at Bengaluru with BJP functionaries, Amit Shah had spoken about the chances of Nalin being made a union minister. Nalin is said to have expressed his reluctance to accept the offer, saying that he already has organizational responsibilities in the party. But Shah said that everyone should be prepared to take up whatever responsibility the party entrusts to them.

Nalin got elected from Dakshina Kannada for second time in succession, and defeated former union minister, B Janardhan Poojary, both the times, with impressive margin. Apart from this performance, Nalin is considered to be a good organizer, and being in-charge of BJP affairs in Kerala, he had recently organized national executive of the party in Kerala where the party does not have a stable base, and earned appreciation from Amit Shah.

Although the name of Shobha, who is aggressive and more vocal against the Congress, is also being coined for being made a central minister, it is said that this proposal has some opposition at the state level. However, if Amit Shah decides to make her a minister, no one would be able to resist his decision, going by the current situation.

Last time, in spite of having a strong base, BJP had succeeded in annexing only two of 13 assembly seats of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. Congress is buoyant this time, having been in power and having won 10 seats from here last time. If a MP from the region is made a central minister, party analysts believe, it will help BJP to improve its tally.

    Rathan,

    ''Beuwolf
Who decides who is communal or not ?so it is clear that both have democratically elected ppl representative. Further it is decided by the party who rules to make a MP minister or not .''

If you cannot decide who is communal or not from the two examples of these candidates that I gave, I don't know what more is required for you to decide.

And dont give me ''democratically elected'' bullshit. what I comment over here most of the time is that people do not vote for good candidates. They vote for people who pander towards them and their beliefs. This has led to us having candidates who are incompetent in management. I am not saying that these candidates should disappear... which they cannot. what i am suggesting is that people should support candidates that are good, those who have some principles and have a strong integrity.

It's always nice to have people from your region in the Central government but the names suggested hardly exude confidence. While it is good that Mr. Kateel has backed out, I wonder what Messrs Shobha has achieved for her to be considered for a Union Minister's post. I find her in the news for all the wrong reasons like trying to foment trouble among the people. There is hardly anything worthwhile she seems to have done for the constituency she has been elected to serve. It would be better if she renders some service to the people who elected her rather than rushing to fish in troubled waters. On top of all this, is the deplorable news rounding the rounds about her having usurped a lot of property while she was in the Karnataka government. Certainly, Amit Shah should try to find a much better and upright person than Shobha, someone who is interested in the welfare of the people and not someone who is only interested in the loaves and fishes of office.

I saw N k Kateel while protesting the killing of Sarath his facial expression he was laughing instead of showing sad face or feeling sad.He looked like just protesting for the sake of his MP seat.

This development reflects a very sorry state of affairs in D.K. District.

Hope some other honest, capable, non-controversial, mass leader (who has the support of all communities/groups) is given the responsibility of becoming a Union Minister. He/She can always get elected as a Rajya Sabha M.P. at a later date (within the allotted deadline).

Hope the Central BJP leadership will seriously consider this matter, in the best interests of having a strong leadership acceptable to all communities/groups, as well as providing a strong & effective opposition at the State level. We definitely require leaders who can unite the people instead of otherwise.

BJP'S ARE NOT PERFORMING WELL IN THE CENTRAL DUE TO ITS FAILURE TO DELIVER PROMISES AND IT IS HAVING IF OR BUT'S JUST TO COUNTER.

SUPPOSE BJP'S WANTER TO COUNTER KARNATAKA THEY SHOULD COUNTER THE DEVELOPMENTS OF SIDDHARAMAIAH INITIATED IN KARNATAKA.

INSTEAD, THEY WANTED JUST TO COUNTER IN MINISTER POST.

THE HIGH AND LOW COMMAND OF BJP'S KNOW VERY WELL BOTH ARE NIKAMMA'S AND USELESS. HENCE THEY DIDN'T TAKE THEM IN THE MINISTRY IN THE BEGENING.

    Derick Dsouza,

    1. Shobha Karandlaje Speaks Against The Iftar Feast In Udupi Mutt
    2. Will set DK on fire if Karthik Raj murder accused are not nabbed in 10 days, warns MP Nalin Kumar

now my counter to your comment,

''They may be have ideological differences. But both are very talented.''
Talented in what???Inflamming communal tensions in DK??? Both of these have been said some things that clearly have led to increase in communal tension.

''Please be happy, our Tulunadu will get benefit. Always dont think about communal politics. When it comes to our Tulunadu, we all should support .''
This comment of yours stems from Tribalism mentality. what you said is exactly what is wrong with Indian democracy at the moment(might have been from the beginning). I dont care if they are from my district, my city, my locality, my street.

We should not be supporting candidates who are clearly unfit for some position and their appointment to that position could make the current situation worse. How they make the situation worse you may ask. Because the groups that they enjoy the support of will be further embolden those very groups and they will continue to wreck havoc in our district.

Those who bait public with communal tensions should not be rewarded.
