BJP set to sweep 200 seats in MP Assembly polls, 29 LS seats in 2019

Bhopal, Aug 18 (PTI): The ruling BJP in Madhya Pradesh aims to sweep the state Assembly polls due in 2018 and win over 200 seats, Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar said on Friday.

The party will also work to win all the 29 Lok Sabha seats in the state in the 2019 general election, he said.

"We have set a target of winning more than 200 seats in the next Assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh and also all the 29 Lok Sabha seats in the 2019 general elections," Tomar said in Bhopal.

Tomar, the minister for urban development and panchayati raj, and Union social justice and empowerment minister Thawar Chand Gehlot, both of whom are MPs from Madhya Pradesh, are in the city to attend the BJP meeting to be held by party president Amit Shah, who is on a three-day visit to the state from Friday.

"It is a matter of pride that Shah has come to Bhopal for a visit. It will enthuse the party workers with new vigour in the state," Tomar said.

In the 230-member Legislative Assembly, the BJP currently holds 165 seats. Currently, the BJP holds 26 out of the total 29 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

The Guna and Chhindwara seats were won by Congress' Jyotiraditya Scindia and Kamal Nath, respectively, in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

Later, in the by-election to Ratlam-Jhabua seat, which was necessitated following the demise of MP Dilip Singh Bhuria, the BJP lost the seat to Congress' Kantilal Bhuria.

“2019 is an open field. What can be predicted is not worth predicting. What cannot be predicted is most likely what seems impossible now.”

If you remember, in 1977 Indira Gandhi seemed the strongest, the most powerful, and obviously because of the Emergency not worth messing with. And since there were no opposition leaders worth their salt at that time, the outcome was considered predictable by many.

However, one thing I remember was that an average Indian was praising Indira Gandhi and keeping quiet when asked about others. I sense a similar situation of bhakts praising their leader today, although the bhakts are also becoming somewhat feeble.

Unless and until Uttar Pradesh EVM works the same way in Madhya Pradesh.

As long as BJP has money power it will sweep everything. The day BJP becomes pauper which is very imminent now it will lose muscle power and EVMs as well. So BJP MPs should take advantage of this golden opportunity and enjoy while it lasts.
