Mangaluru, Aug 18: The police have arrested a person for allegedly opening a fake account on Facebook and posting offensive comments against Goddess Sita.
The accused, identified as Darvez Mohidin (27), was arrested by the immigration officers at Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport.
According to the complaint filed in the Mangaluru North police station, a fake account was opened on Facebook in the name of Jabbar B C Road and derogatory comments were posted against the Hindu Goddess using this account.
The Mangaluru North police who took up the investigation identified the accused as Kalandar Shafi B M and Darvez Mohidin. As both the accused were staying abroad, the police had issued a lookout circular against them.
Among the two accused, Kalandar was arrested on October 9, 2016 when he landed at Mangaluru International Airport. He was later produced in court and sent to judicial custody.
The other accused, Darvez, landed at Mumbai airport and was apprehended by the immigration officers based on the lookout circular that had been issued.
On receiving information of his arrest, the Mangaluru North police left for Mumbai and took Darvez into custody.
