Puttur, Aug 18: University-level intercollegiate music competition ‘Philo Ninaada’, will be organised on August 22 and 23, by Mangalore University Student Welfare Office, and St Philomena College here, in the college auditorium.

‘Philo Ninaada’ consists of eight events, namely, Classical Vocal Solo, Classical Instrument Solo-Percussion, Classical Instrument Solo-Non-Percussion, Light Vocal-Indian, Western Vocal, Group Song-Indian, Group Song-Western and Folk Orchestra.

The inaugural of the competitions will be held on Tuesday, August 22, at 9.30 am. Registrar of Mangalore University prof K M Lokesh will inaugurate the programme. Chartered accountant CA M Jagannath Kamath Mangaluru will participate as the chief guest. Ghatam maestro Vidwan Trichy K R Kumar will be the guest of honour. Correspondent of the college Fr Alfred J Pinto will preside over the programme.

The valedictory programme will be held on Wednesday, August 23, at 3.45 pm. campus director and chairman, centre for PG Studies of the college Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, will participate as the chief guest. Director of Students Welfare Office, Mangalore University, prof Udaya Barkur will be the guest of honour. Principal prof Leo Noronha will preside over the programme.


More than 500 student artistes from various colleges of three districts, viz, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Coorg, of Mangalore University, are expected to participate in ‘Philo Ninada'.
