Haveri, Aug 17: A bus conductor of North West Road Transport Corporation, dejected over harassment reportedly meted out to  him by the manager of the transport unit at Ranebannur, tried to end his life in Ranebannur bus stand on Wednesday August  16.

The bus conductor who tried to end his life was Venkappa Basavaraddi Holiyachi (52), a native of Yarekuppi village in Ranebennur taluk.  It is said that he was frustrated at the refusal of leave he had sought, by the manager of the transport unit, it is said.

Venkappa has been working here since many years. In a suicide note he had written before attempting suicide, he said he had verbal duel with the manager of the unit, Santosh. He says that he was agitated at the threat posed by Santosh to dismiss him from the job for insulting the latter. In the death note, he had mentioned that he has also written to the district superintendent of police about his decision to commit suicide.

No one came to his rescue after Venkappa fell down after consuming poison in the bus stand although there were many conductors, driver, and staff members around. Some college students who were waiting for buses to their native place, took him to the government hospital as a result of which his life was saved, it is gathered.
