Mangaluru: Budding innovators impress at Vikas PU College 'Panchso Ka Josh'

Mangaluru, Aug 16: “The models designed by the participants are the evidence of brilliance of young students of India,” said Dr C B Vedamurthy, additional superintendent of police, Dakshina Kannada.

He was speaking in the programme as the chief guest to the aspirants of grand finale of ‘Panchso Ka Josh’ competition hosted by Vikas PU College on Wednesday August 16.

J Koragappa, trustee, Vikas Education Trust, correspondent Dr D Sripathi Rao, Dr Ananth Prabhu G, advisor of Vikas Education Trust, principal T Rajaram Rao, Parthasarathi, coordinator Vikas Group of Institutions, and Ayshwarya Rao, chief coordinator of the event were present.

Indian youth is hard-working and are willing to innovate and venture into new territories. Proper guidance, counselling and streamlining of their thoughts and enthusiasm in the right direction is the need of the hour. Keeping this theme in mind, Vikas has tried to inspire the confidence in tomorrow’s youth to enhance their potential through a unique programme for high school students - ‘500 Ka Josh’. A seed funding of Rs 500 was given to each team and all these teams were expected to develop innovative, aesthetically brilliant and creative models which will benefit the society and implement the same in the near future. 

A total of fifty one teams comprising winners of zonal competition of Udupi, Madikeri, and Chikkamagluru districts and teams from Dakshina Kannada participated in the grand finale. 

The winners of this event in three categories were awarded a cash prize of Rs10,000.

* Best Business /Commercial Model- T A Pai English Medium High School, Udupi (Nishan, Ashwin & Sourabh)
* Best Innovative Science Model- Canara Girls High School, Mangalru (Kushi P Bhimani, Rashmitha S Shet & Ananya P)
* Aesthetically Brilliant Model - Sri Venkataramana Eng Med School, Kundapur (Preetham S Poojary, Imaad and Sushma)

Consolation Prizes of Rs 2,000 were given to the following teams:  

* Canara Girls High School, Mangaluru (Shreya Mallya and Ananya)
* Sri Venkataramana Eng. Med. School, Kundapur (Ronson M, Jyothiradithya and Bhuvan)
* Lourdes Central School, Mangaluru (Sneha Alex and Navya Bhandary)

The participants were also given a brief session on career guidance by Dr Ananth Prabhu G, advisor, Vikas Education Trust. Karthik Upparna, lecturer in Physics, was the master of ceremony. Ajay Karkera, lecturer in Chemistry welcomed the gathering and Vidya Kamath, administrator, Vikas PU College, proposed the vote of thanks.
