Mangaluru: Independence Cup football - Yenepoya College bags trophy, Aloysius placed second

Mangaluru, Aug 16: Final matches of the 21st Independence Cup Football tournament that was underway since a month at the football ground at Nehru Maidan here was held on Tuesday August 15. The tournament was sponsored by Dakshina Kannada District Football Association.

In the high school section, Lourdes Central School team humbled Swami Sadananda Saraswati school team with a margin of 4-3. In the college section, St Aloysius College team defeated Yenepoya College team by scoring three goals against two scored by the opponents. In PU section, Yenepoya College stood first, relegating St Aloysius College to second position.



MLA, J R Lobo, president of Shree Devi Education Trust, A Sadananda Shetty, renowned music director, Gurukiran, Union Bank of India regional manager, Dharmaraj, co-convener of Karnataka State Small and Medium Industries cell, Badrinath Kamath, president of Karnataka Purse Seine Boat Fishermen's Association, Mohan Bengre, and some others participated as chief guests at the prize distribution function.

Dakshina Kannada District Football Association president, D M Aslam, presided. Secretary, Hussain Bolar, presented the programme. Office bearers of the association along with president of the state association, Vijay Suvarna, were present.
