Bengaluru, Aug 15: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi will be launching the first of the 101 Indira Canteens to feed people from labour class and poor migrants to the City of Bengaluru by partaking lunch with them in Kanakanapalya near Ashoka Pillar in the City on Wednesday.

Along with the Kanakanapalya branch, 101 outlets of the total 198 planned by the BBMP would also start operating on Wednesday.

Rest of the 97 canteens to be opened on October 2, 2017, to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatama Gandhi, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said.

Following the inauguration, Rahul Gandhi would be addressing Congress party workers at the National College Grounds at 12.30 pm.

It may be recalled the JD(S) has already launched its own Namma Appaji canteen, after JD(S) supremo and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, who is fondly referred to as Appaji by party workers.

The opposition BJP is also planning similar canteens under the banner Deen Dayalu Upadhyaya.

The Congress Vice President would leave for New Delhi along with Siddaramaiah, KPCC President Dr G Parameshwara and other party leaders on Wednesday at 4 pm.

The Chief Minister and KPCC Chief are expected to discuss the filling of three vacancies in the Cabinet with party president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
