Mangaluru, Aug 15: In memory of Fr Stanley R Pereira, founder of St Jude Shrine, the St Jude Association and ICYM Pakshikere unit, on Sunday, August 13, organised 'Gadyanth Ek Dees' at Koikude near Pakshikere church.

The inaugural programme was presided over by Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza, Parish priest of St Jude Church, Pakshikere. Chief guest Nagesh Suvarna, president of Kemral grama panchayath, local dramatist, inaugurated the programme.

Leo Arva was honoured for his achievement in the field of agriculture, on the occasion.

MLC Ivan D’Souza, inspired the competitors and organisers with his message.

Fr Clifford Pinto, assistant parish priest, Fr Gomes, parish priest of Mulki, Fr Sunil Praveen Pinto, Kinnigoli church, Leo Arva, preema pinto president of ICYM Kinnigoli deanery were present on stage.

Various teams from Pakshikere, Kinnigoli, Kirem, Balkunje, Mulki and Kateel parish actively took part in various traditional competitions arranged for different age categories.

March past, pyramid, tug of war, treasure hunt, handball, group dance, bombing the city, dog and bone, relay, spot games, couple race, and other individual games were conducted.

Pakshikere parish team emerged the overall champions and Balkunje parish team bagged the runners up trophy.

The celebration gave an opportunity to many to refresh their childhood memories and understand the typical practices and cultures of coastal Karnataka.

Breakfast and meal was served on occasion.

ICYM central council president Elroy Saldanha, and other office bearers were present for the event.

Jackson Saldanha, vice president of parish council welcomed the gathering. Chethan Joy Rodrigues, ICYM president, delivered the vote of thanks. Robert D' Souza, Nithyadar Ward compered the programme.
