UP kids deaths: Sacked Dr Kafeel Khan made 'scapegoat', says AIIMS docs

New Delhi, Aug 14 (PTI): Resident doctors of the Delhi AIIMS on Monday condemned the removal of Dr Kafeel Khan of Gorakhpur's Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College Hospital, alleging that he had been made a "scapegoat" in the tragic incident in which 72 children have died since August 7.

Khan, who was the nodal officer at the state-run hospital's paediatric department, had been hailed as a hero after he reportedly bought oxygen cylinders with his own money during the crisis.

"With great pain we have to say that once again a doctor has been made a scapegoat for the infrastructural lapse and failure of the government," President of the resident doctors association at AIIMS, Dr Harjit Singh Bhatti, said.

The association has written a letter condemning Khan's removal and has also accused the Uttar Pradesh government of "gross neglect of public health."

"If oxygen, gloves, surgical instruments and basic medicines are not available in the hospital, then who is responsible? According to the government, the doctor is responsible.

"I request politicians not to spoil this relationship between the patient and the doctor to hide their incompetency," Bhatti said in the letter.

Over 60 children have reportedly died at the BRD Medical College Hospital since August 7 and at least 30 children were reported dead till yesterday.

Many of the victims were infants admitted at the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit.

Sir, Here is the list of Chief Ministers from BJP is in ruling which may not be in ruling in last 15 years but the party's presence is there from 1991 to 2002.
    Kalyan Singh 24 June 1991 6 December 1992 (1 year, 165 days)
    Kalyan Singh 21 September 1997 to 12 November 1999(2 years, 52 days)
    Ram Prakash Gupta 12 November 1999 to 28 October 2000 (351 days)
    Rajnath Singh 28 October 2000 8 March 2002 (1 year, 131 days).
From the days of CM Kalyan Singh BJP's priority in Uttar Pradesh was just focused around Babri Masjid issue.
Moreover Yogi Adityanath is the MP from the Gorakhpur constituency, Uttar Pradesh for five consecutive terms since 1998. Adityanath is also the Mahant or head priest of the Gorakhnath Math, a Hindu temple in Gorakhpur, a position he has held since the death of his spiritual "father", Mahant Avaidyanath, in September 2014. He was also a politician of the Hindu Mahasabha and, later Bharatiya Janata Party, being elected to the Lok Sabha from Gorakhpur four times. He played an important role in the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. He was the mentor and guru of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Avaidyanathan was elected MLA from Maniram Assembly segment five times 1962, 1967, 1968 1974 and 1977. He was elected Lok Sabha member from Gorakhpur as an Independent candidate in 1970 and won again in 1989 as candidate of Hindu Mahasabha. He was elected MP from the same seat in 1991 and 1996 as Bharatiya Janata Party nominee.
Gorakpur is very much like kingdom for Yogi's since 1962 to date. Fifty years in ruling is more than sufficient to change into modern world.
Kindly do the factual check and let us know why even after 50 yrs of father and son duo ruling 'Gorakhpur' remains most backward with highest Infant Mortality rate?
Will you will be defender of Yogi's if one of our loved among the dead children?
    Jai Hind

When Kerala voted for Water, Electricity Health Care & Education, they got it. When Delhi voted for Education, Health Care & Fair Taxation, they got it.
When UP voted for BJP's 'Shamshan-Kabristan', they got it too.

This saga reminds me of the Akbar and Beerbal story of 10 fools in Agra.
Beerbal one night found a man searching under the street light for his lost ring. Upon asking the man said" I have lost my ring over there in the dark alley but as I can't see there, I am searching here where I can see!
The tragic story in UP is just that. Faulty currupt administration is the real culprit here. A doctor is sacked . The inefficiency of UP government cannot get worser than this. Blaming congress does not mean bjp is any better. UP state of affairs looks similar to our neighbor Pakistan where minorities are blamed and targeted.

Athi brasht Congress wants yhe blame to go only to one person. They want to absolve the doctor who never informed the CM on two visits of CM to thr Hospital.

Nowadays the power is gone in to the hands of illiterate, fake degree holders actually whose rightful place is Himalayan Jungles. Don't worry, when a person has to fall, God gives him so much power that he will think nothing is above him. More you rise, the worst the fall is.

First of all understand that Adani has been granted huge amount of loan of 72000 crores when UPA was in power. the question arises wether the Banks have done the due deligence while giving the Loan. Loans do not become NPA immediatly after granting the Loan it takes some time. The banks have not waived off their right to recover the Loan. the previous manmohan Singh government has waived off huge loans of Corporates please read news correcly.

If Gorakhpur were a country then it would be among the 20 nations with the highest infant mortality rates in the world, in the same league as Gambia, South Sudan and Zambia.
Citing data from the health department, The media reported today that 62 out of 1,000 children born in Gorakhpur die before turning one, far worse than India's infant mortality rate of 40 out of 1,000.
According to the infant mortality rate of countries collated by the CIA, Gorakhpur would take the 18th spot with Gambia in West Africa (62 out of 1000). India comes in 49th (40 out of 1000). The countries with the highest IMR are Afghanistan (112.80 out of 1000), Mali (100 out of 1000) and Somalia (96 out of 1000).
Gorakhpur also has a dismal under-5 mortality rate. TOI reported today that 76 out of 1000 children die before turning five, far worse than the country (50 out of 1000).
Uttar Pradesh's IMR (64 out of 1000) and its under-5 mortality rate (78 out of 1000) are presently the worst in the country.
While nation mourns the death of children in Gorakhpur, Yogi Adityanath orders 'Grand Janmashtami Celebration'.
(BJP) was seen as a harbinger of change and the people handed it an unprecedented mandate of 325 seats in a 403-member assembly. Five months on, the large number of deaths of children at the BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur, allegedly due to the lack of oxygen, has dented the aura of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
It has been a tough time since he assumed office: Questions were being raised over law and order.
The death of 65 children in a medical college in his hometown has, however, severely damaged his standing. The government is under attack for its handling of the tragedy.
Dr Kafeel Khan’s sacking, accusing the state government of “gross neglect of public health.” By blaming doctors for the death of the children, “politicians are hiding their incompetence.”
Is this the 'Uttam Pradesh' PM Modi promised?

Rathan, I appreciate your blind support to the fake party. However, do you know your leader rushed to Kerala to meet the family of RSS member who was killed by his opponents or may be his own people which is common in their organization ? Now, tell me how many of these dongi leaders visited the poor parents of innocent kids killed by the government ? The bitter truth is, these dongi leaders are either without family and children or who have abandoned their family and they do not know the pain of losing the children. Is it humanity to arrange grand celebration of any festival when the maatham is going on in over 70 families ? Suppose it was happened in one of the Minister's house, would Adithya dare to call for festival celebration ?

It's as if neither the politicians were interested in talking about it, nor the journalists were interested in highlighting the danger of this mosquito-borne scourge which, according to government data, has claimed the lives of 25,000 kids and infants since 1978 in Gorakhpur alone. And this number, by all indications, could be a severely conservative estimate. The unofficial figure is at least double that figure.
BRD Medical College is the only hospital in eastern Uttar Pradesh — where the mosquito-borne viral fever is a seasonally endemic — to have a measure of the facility to treat AES-related symptoms and it is flooded annually by patients from nearby districts. Many kids die before even getting primary medical care.

particularly disturbing is the manner in which “collective outrage” is expressed in a very opportunistic manner. In the past four decades when the state has been ruled by political parties of all denominations (Congress, BJP, SP and BSP), there had never been any serious attempt to contain the epidemic and prevent the deaths of hundreds of children every year. The state bureaucracy made only cosmetic attempts to improve medical facilities during the chief ministership of Bir Bahadur Singh. Since then, Gorakhpur, Deoria, Siddharth Nagar, Kushi Naga, Basti, Bahraich, Gonda and the adjoining Lakhimpur Kheri were regarded as a region where people were doomed to live as second-class citizen. People’s representatives in the legislative Assembly or Parliament are rarely seen expressing their outrage over the plight of people. Even when they did, it was in a ritualistic manner, like Adityanath did during his stints in Lok Sabha
