Bengaluru: Shocking - 13-year-old girl bleeds to death while bystanders take videos

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Aug 14: In a shocking case of 'bystander apathy', 13-year-old Priya lay dying when the slide in BBMP children’s park in MVJ Layout in Mahadevapura came crashing on her on Saturday. People came rushing immediately but no one stepped in to help.

Priya’s friends, who had accompanied her to the park, ran begging to the onlookers to help their friend. However, many silently watched the girl bleed and some even took photos and videos.

It was after 20 minutes, Saleem and Megharaj, who were passing by, got to know about the incident and rushed Priya on their two-wheeler to a hospital in Kaggadasapura. She was declared brought dead.

“How can people be so inhuman that they can’t even help a dying child,” laments Priya’s aunt.

Priya’s father is inconsolable and blames BBMP for taking his daughter’s life. There are no warning signs, no security guards. Public are allowed to use the park, even when construction work is going on. The gates are not locked to keep the public away. "What kind of negligence is this?" he questions. "How can BBMP install a 150 kg pillar without fixing it to the ground? If not for BBMP’s negligence, my daughter would have been alive," he says.

Priya was a class eight student of MTB Jnana Jyothi Vidyanikethan in Mahadevapura. She was very bright in studies and had secured second rank. She used to get up very early in the morning as she was determined to score the first rank in the next exam. She was fondly called as “Ammu,” recalls Priya’s relative.

KR Puram MLA Byrathi Basavaraj visited the grieving family and has declared a compensation of Rs 2 lakh from his end.

Mayor G Padmavathi has promised strict action if the contractor is found to be at fault. She also said that compensation for the family will be discussed.

After arrival of smartphones, life has become all about "sharing" and "Likes" and "Dislikes". No one is realising their responsibility when someone (that too an innocent little girl) needs their help desperately. Waste of being existing in human society.

The harassment to "Good Samaritan" by the law enforcement has made them to mute spectators when there is an accident. People generally are not inhuman. Unless people get full immunity from being a witness to the accident or in any way giving any statements to the law enforcement, this kind of behavior will continue and lot of lives will be miserably lost.

It is the biggest pest at present is the smartphone.Everyone wants to know ,and take and have a foto of any bloody event ,whether you need it or not.No presence of mind to help ,but a foto is a must. Here too it is a infection happening. When some accident happens on highway ,and a ambulance ,or doctor, police are on the way to help,,no chance to go forward, group of people waylay and gather ,to make a foto,Vehicles passing by are moving slowly than it is allowed ,to make a foto.so a big que is built. So they have made a law that anyone doesnt make a passage to transport to the accident person will get a big fine.and who doenst help the person too. This should be also made in India .Only then people learn.
whereas in this case I heard because of repair ,park was closed .how come the girl went inside?Heartfelt sympathy to the family.

    Dear all,

It's a common phenomenon in our country especially within the government and semi-governmental departments to adopt a very slack, carefree, lackadaisical attitude and shrug away from responsibilities as if they are/were not a part and parcel of their lives. No amount of awareness (I think) will be enough to drill the message into their heads and bring back the.dead.

Unfortunately in this episode, the worst part of this is that even though there must have been literates (Sure there were umpteen people who may have peeped in, watched it all and went their own way) who instead of offering help behaved like vultures ignored common basic ethics by not wanting to be a victim of help and vanished, They use their common sense to make things safe from their side, that is run away scott-free from the problem thinking that it is somebody else who can get involved and that somebody will be the right person to deal with this issue..

Here I am reminded of a short story called SOMEBODY, EVERYBODY ANYBODY, NOBODY

Granted that the Supreme Court in its ruling recently stated that the public will not be harassed, questioned or reprimanded for helping anybody in accidental/mishap cases and rules have now become a wee bit flexible in the wake of public outcry due to many harassment meted out by law abiding guardians, this mishap in particular could have been ALL THE MORE avoided but even the worst part is that interested people crowd along the accident sites as if it is a tamasha or something like that. The law states those who are CROWDING & WATCHING any type of a mishap / accident etc. WITHOUT RENDERING ANY HELP ARE ALSO liable to be penalized, tried and subjected to punishment for not MAKING AN EFFORT TO MITIGATE the problem INSTEAD OF AGGRAVATING IT.

How many more precious lives will be snuffed out due to the public apathy or for that matter irresponsibility by the concerned public/private sector body who think that everything is okay and "APNA BAAP KA KYA JATHA HAIN

While I am appalled as well to read this news article , just wondering , how many of us would actually help someone should we be in a similar position?

I am afraid, I don't think many of us will step up to help and will just be bystanders as well..

Shocking, most senseless/insensitive behavior from the bystanders!!! Today, it was Priya. Tomorrow, it could be one of our very near & dear one.

Where are we heading??? What is our world coming to??? Have we taken leave of our conscience??? May innocent Priya's soul rest in peace.

    Disgusting Indian mentality.
Two years back, Bengaluru was shamed by horrifying visuals of a young biker begging for help after an accident with a truck split his body in two. As he lay there, begging for assistance, people filmed him - but did not come to his rescue.

    Jossey Saldanha,

A stupid insane character pressed the disagree button against your comment "How can we be so insensitive ...."

I wonder who that maniac could be, who does not even understand the topic and derived pleasure in clicking the disagree button.

If I were to find out who that person was, I would give him a tight rap and bring that person to his/her senses.

    Such a disgraceful attitude

Such incidents are occurring much too often all over the country. As a country we have lost our soul. If someone is about to be lynched, then everyone around will join in the attack, but when one is helpless and dying everyone will turn his back on the victim.

People are more interested in getting videos when accidents occur than helping the victim. when such incident happened people noticed first should have thought that child is their own sister and helped her to rush to the nearest hospital
