Udupi: Woman from Vaddarse dies in accident during pilgrimage

Udupi, Aug 14: A vehicle in which a family from Vaddarse in the taluk was travelling to Mantralaya in Andhra Pradesh for pilgrimage met with an accident at Manvi in Raichur district on Sunday August 13. This tragic accident resulted in the death of a woman family member.

Suguna Shetty (40), wife of Shankar Shetty, lost her life. Suguna along with eight members of her husband's family, was on a pilgrimage by a Tavera vehicle. The entourage had begun its journey on Saturday evening from Vaddarse. During early morning on Sunday, the driver lost control over the vehicle, after which the vehicle hit a roadside tree.

Out of other passengers, two persons, identified as Anand Shetty and Chandramathi Shetty, suffered serious injuries. Both of them stand admitted into a hospital at Raichur. Driver of the vehicle, identified as Mahesh from Karkada, Saligrama in the taluk, as well as other passengers in the vehicle survived the ordeal  with minor injuries.

Suguna used to look after agricultural farm owned by the family at Vaddarse, while her husband, Shankar Shetty, manages hotel at Shivamogga. Suguna has left behind her husband, a son, and a daughter.
