Kundapur, Aug 12: In a shocking incident reported at Bijoor in Byndoor here on Saturday August 12, a son allegedly assaulted his parents and then committed suicide out of guilt that he had killed them.

Raghava, son of Manju (67) and Heriakka (57), had been to Dharmasthala two days ago to seek divine blessings. He returned home early morning on Saturday sleepy and heavy-eyed.

He knocked on the main door of the house and but did not get a response, as his parents were still asleep. After repeated knocks, his parents woke up and opened the door. The son, in a fit of rage for being made to wait, grabbed hold of a firewood that was lying around and allegedly assualted his parents.

The impact of the attack was such that both the parents collapsed on the spot.

On seeing his parents lying unconscious in a pool of blood, a frightened Raghava assumed that he had killed them, and out of extreme guilt, ran to a nearby well and jumped in to his death.

The locals who arrived at the spot later admitted Manju and Heriakka to Kundapur government hospital.

Raghava was reportedly mentally unstable for the past two years and several times had done things that were not in his control.

Byndoor police inspector and staff visited the spot, conducted investigation and registered a case.

Karma works differently my dear friends. We're all just looking at the surface. Sympathy and Empathy is fine. But don't go to judge someone or their circumstances.

My God how can a son hit parents, didn't he think parents love and how they have grown him. By committing suicide it proves he is mentally unstable. How did he find that by committing suicide will be solution. Feeling sad of parents. they could have joined his son for treatment when they found he was making problems because of his mental health. We can find two problems with the boy who committed suicide. One is mentally unwell another is anger. Nowadays anger also is a major problem with youngsters who take drastic decisions which will lead to suicide. Before taking such a major decision they don't think that parents had look after their children long years with so much difficulties. why can't they think parents love so much than their life. Rest in piece ragava. Get well soon manju and heriyakka

Sad and tragic. In the first moment we think what this guy is beating the parents for making him wait.what brought him his visit of holy place?Only later we cometo know about his problem.very sad.He should have taken to a psychiatric doctor before he visited the Holy place.parents too were not so educated to understand this.Must have thought he will be alright after piligrimage. Why no villager noticed this?Heartfelt sympathy to the parents.May his soul rest in peace.I am sure parents must be feeling guilty now .

Mental illness is the least discussed thing in India even after so many advances bin education and science. If a person has issues please help them, understand them, suggest them medicinal help rather than making fun of them as mad or outcasting them. If help reaches early anyone can be saved. Mental issues are just like cancer, only person knows his struggle.

But, irony is, still our superstitions force us to send sick people to various holy shrines for miraculous cures instead of taking psychiatric treatment, and this is the end result!!!

    Shankarji,
Raghava was mentally unstable, you can say unfortunate & tragic incidents for all of them. Relatives or villagers should have admitted Raghava to proper hospital for the treatment. Some times organisations who boast themselves as the protector of Community and culture do not even go near to their houses. If others treat them in a good gesture then the same organisation would file the case against them as conversion.
