Teenager leaves home to finish 'Blue Whale' challenge; rescued

Pune, Aug 12 (PTI): A 14-year-old boy from Solapur, who was on his way to Pune to complete a task given to him in the online game 'Blue Whale Challenge', was rescued by the police.

The district police yesterday intercepted a Pune-bound state transport bus in which the teenager was travelling, near Bhigwan on an information given by their Solapur counterparts.

"As soon as we were informed by our counterparts in Solapur, we intercepted the bus and rescued the boy, who was on his way to complete a task given by the Blue Whale Challenge game," a Bhigwan police station officer said.

He said the boy appeared "lost" and was silent when the police took him with them.

"The boy's businessman father came to the police station and took him home," the officer said.

According to him, the class IX student was addicted to the game, where a player is given different tasks by his handlers.

"After the boy went missing, his parents started inquiring with his friends when they came to know that he was playing the 'Blue Whale Challenge'," the official said.

The online game, which originated in Russia, starts by asking participants via social media to take self-harming tasks.

A 14-year-old boy from Mumbai had recently ended his life by jumping off a building and the police are probing if the incident was linked to the Blue Whale suicide challenge.

The government is banning so many things - most of them irrelevant, what is stopping them from banning this fatal game? Do they want the kin of some politician to die to take that step?

You can't ban Blue Whale Challenge. It is not an app you can download from any website or software provider. That is the what makes this a challenge really, to keep youngsters away from it. The admins of this game track your movements on social media. They particularly look for these youngsters who seem to post things that seem to be sad and depressing in nature. You know; love failures, break ups, fed up with life and all that which you can pretty much see on social media. These kids don't choose the game. The game chooses them. They will be contacted by the admins of the game and these kids sadly, fall for the trap. From there, it's all psychological process how these kids just forget everything and fall for it. I think, for us to protect our kids, it's even a bigger challenge for us. This Blue Whale Challenge is more for us trying to prevent it than for these kids.
Only way to ban this death ride would be to get even more closer to your kids. Spend time with them. Look for any usual behavioural patterns and make sure that there is good communication built on trust. World is like that, everyday life seems to be just so hectic and meaningless. And at an age where brain chemicals and various hormones influence their minds, these kids fall for all the wrong things.

Show a little support, love. That's it.
    You can't ban the internet.

You are right at some stage but it does not work at this stage, now his behavior and actions are controlled by someone else, he needs counselling and constant love from all arround him along with the prayers till he comes out of it (evil thinking / power).
