UP govt's circular to Madrasas to celebrate I-Day triggers controversy

Daijiworld Media Network

Lucknow, Aug 11: A circular from the Uttar Pradesh government directing Madrasas (Islamic schools) to compulsorily observe Independence Day by hoisting the flag, organizing cultural programmes and also videograph the celebrations has triggered a controversy. A section of the Muslim clergy allege that the circular questions the integrity and patriotism of those running the Madrasas.

Certain clerics questioned why the circular was sent only to Madrasas while others were irked with the government asking them to submit the videos and photographs of the celebrations.

“A Madrasa student is equally patriotic as any other student. There was no need to issue such an order, especially only to madrasas, which have been celebrating the country’s Independence since 1947,” said Imam Eidgah Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahli to a newspaper.

The order was issued by registrar of UP Madrasa Shiksha Parishad, Rahul Gupta, who said there was nothing wrong with the order. “The letter has been issued with the right intention of helping Madrasas organise the event in accordance with a uniform schedule,” he said.

The directives mentioned in the circular had brief instruction such as:

• The flag hoisting and recitation of the National Anthem will take place at 8 am.
• Tribute will be paid to the martyrs of the freedom struggle.
• Students have been asked to sing patrotic songs
• Student to discuss the history of August 15 and the freedom fighters.
• Cultural programmes based on the theme of national unity, along with sports activities.
• Sweets will be distributed at the end of the session.
• The parishad has also sent the text of the National Anthem in both Hindi and Urdu.

UP minority affairs minister Mohsin Raza welcomed the order and said it would help Madrasa students “learn more about the country’s freedom struggle”.

However, reacting to the controversy, Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Katiyar said that all schools and Madrasas should unfurl the flag and sing the anthem. People who disagree should be categorized as “Deshdrohi” (traitors), he said.

Meanwhile, senior BJP MLA Raj Purohit has appealed to the Maharashtra government to make Vande Mataram mandatory in the state as soon as possible.

RSS shakas have been celebrating independence.
madrasas if they getting grant from government have to complusorliy follow the order.

In karnataka ,its mandatory in all schools..be it govt aided or private to provide evidence of celebrations not only for independence but also for ambedkar jayanthi etc...

very good decision by UP govt, as per my view.
now people from around the world, can see live how madarasas have been celebrating independence day , so no more fake accusation will occur.
but why Shakhas has been exempted, is a question. where to many kids getting brain washed, in the name of fake patriotism. by watching speech of a kid aged 8 to 9 years in bantwal during protest against state govt by kalladka bhatta, i was wondering how a boy aged 8 to 9 years of old speak against govt, in such a manner that, he dare to demolish state govt.

You too read the news correctly
All institutions/madrasa who get govt aid / monetary benefits
    have been ordered
The shakhas you mention r not getting any govt aid
So no question of ordering them arises
In Karnataka such order is there for all govt / aided or unaided
schools since a long time. why you not raise objection then ?

So ur statement is saying that only BJP celebrates Independence Day
Hoisting national flag in every eductional institution is mandatory in India.
So what's wrong in sending a circular to all eductional institutions.
Hoisting national flag is communal according to DIG VIJAY SINGH( playing politics with national flag)
Since madrasa was hoisting national flag then they have no problem with the circular.
If rules was followed then there would be no problem

    Sadanand,
    Ayyo Ayyo!
Madrasa is not synonymous to Temple or Church
Madrasa is like a School / Vidyalaya. Which school you can enter without permission?
Synonymous to Temple and Church is Masjid. You can come to Masjid for prayers. 5 times a day. No permission required.
In Temple, poojas are performed no namaz.
In Masjid, namaz is performed no pooja.

In a democratic set up, a priest, mullah or yogi is appointed as CM, everyone knows the intention of the appointer. This man carries out the aim of the appointer very nicely. Other things, like increase in crime, rapes, hatred among communities, children dying in hospitals are all secondary for them.

The freedom movement of India was not the sole agenda of a particular political party but it had moved aam aadmi in the form of masses in his/her own capacity. The history of Indian national movement would be biased and incomplete without the presentation of the actual role of Indian Muslims in it, right from the revolt of 1857 to the day of Independence in 1947.
After the first Republic Day in 1950, the Sangh never hoisted the Tricolour at its Nagpur headquarters, sticking to its Bhagwa Dhwaj (saffron flag), inscribed with an "Om", even on R-Day and I-Day. It changed the practice in 2002 when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was Prime Minister.
When the Congress agreed to hoist the Tricolour in January 1931, K.B. Hedgewar and M.S. Golwalkar, the Sangh's first and third chiefs, circulated a directive among all Sangh shakhas to consider the Bhagwa Dhwaj their national flag.
On July 14, 1946, Golwalkar told a congregation at Nagpur: "It was the saffron flag which in totality represented Bharatiya culture. It was the embodiment of God. We firmly believe that, in the end, the whole nation will bow before this saffron flag."
Golwalkar again aired the Sangh's reservations about the national flag in the essay "The Eternal Basis", part of a compendium of his essays, titled Bunch of Thoughts.
Yogi government instead of dictating madrasa , should read the history of Indian Muslim contribution from design national flag to coining famous slogan of 'Jai Hindi to number of sacrifices made by leaders'.
I would request all the madrasa in UP to take this opportunity and educate Yogi and his cow class ministers about the real history of India's freedom struggle.
    Jai Hind

All directives mentioned will be followed. There are even some important directives which also needs to be strictly followed like denouncing the traitors who sided with Britishers and did not take part in the freedom struggle groups like RSS. Denouncing and condemning killer of father of the nation Nathu Ram Godse. Condemning top govt official going to enemy country Pakistan secretly, uninvited, unofficially and establishing cohort relationship. Denouncing the party involved in killing sacred Gau Matha and exporting its meat for thier monetary benefit. Condemning the party for raising Pakistani flag in Sindagi. It is very important to observe all these directives to be a patriotic Indian.
