Mangaluru, Aug 10: Department of Business Administration at St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor, here, launched the two-day faculty development programme, on Thursday, August 10, for all faculty members of all undergraduate and post graduate institutes in and around the city.

The programme was hosted to provide an enhanced understanding of GST, its framework, and its effect on the economy.

Dr Prakash Pinto, dean, department of Business Administration, welcomed the august gathering. He thanked the dignitaries for their support and cooperation in educating the community on GST.

Chief guest Capt Shambhu Bhat, deputy commissioner, Commercial Taxes, Mangaluru in his inaugural address, remarked about the paradigm shift in the taxation system in India and the complexities associated with it.

Guest of honour, B N Rame Gowda, deputy commissioner, Commercial Taxes, highlighted the diversity in the mentality of taxpayers in India and other developed countries. He also stressed the importance of paying taxes for growth of the economy.

Dr Joseph Gonsalvis, principal, SJEC gave an insight on the historical developments in taxation in India. Fr Wilfred Prakash D'Souza, director, SJEC, presided over the inaugural. He expressed concerns about the challenges while implementing GST.

Acharya Chitralekha, assistant professor, department of Business Administration, proposed the vote of thanks.
