Bengaluru, Aug 6: Vice Pesident-elect M. Venkaiah Naidu, who will also be the chairman of the Rajya Sabha, on Sunday promised that he will ensure vibrant, constructive, useful and meaningful discussions in the Upper House of the Parliament.

Naidu, who had been elected to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka for three successive terms earlier, said he came from a humble farmer’s family and had no dynastic background.

“I will live up to the expectations of people and ensure constructive debate in the Rajya Sabha.”

Venkaiah Naidu, who had also served as National President of BJP and was Urban Development Minister in the Narendra Modi government, entered the Rajya Sabha for the fourth time from Rajasthan.

Naidu advocated the principle of cooperative federalism and said if states implement growth-oriented policies, the country would achieve progress.

“Agenda of new India is development, development and development” Naidu said

Responding to the felicitation organised by leaders cutting across party lines here, he recalled his difficult student days and said he had never expected that he would become vice-president of the country.

A galaxy of leaders attended the felicitation function.

Naidu, who worked closely with veteran leaders such as A B Vajpayee, former prime minister and L K Advani, former deputy prime Minister, said Indian economy was growing rapidly while economies of China and other developed nations recording slow growth.

The former BJP president, who was instrumental in the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana during the Vajpayee government, said the country’s major challenges were eradication of poverty, elimination of terrorism, wiping out corruption and the black money.

In a democratic parliament all parties ruling and opposition are needed to hold a meaningful debate but BJP is perpetually giving a skip to every debate starting from our PM. Debate and BJP are two opposite poles which can not come together. So it will be a meaningless debate.
