Udupi, Aug 5: Bahrain Konkans extended financial support to the needy students of Milagres College on Saturday, August 5 during a programme at college audio-visual room.

The likeminded people of Bahrain Konkans donated scholarship in the form of cheques to needy students.

Speaking on the occasion, president of the management committee, Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo said, “The Udupi denary is helping more than 300 students by extending financial assistance every year. No student should suffer in getting education due to financial problem. The students fund should be raised through donors. The Canara Organisation for Development and Peace (CODP) has helped out more than 5000 students so far in getting education.”

“Passed out students should remember their schools. When it comes to financial assistance, priority should be one’s family but it is good to share one’s part of income to needy people or for educating the deprived. Behind a small bite of food, there is a lot of effort of many people. The same theme applies to education.”

“There are persons who really want to do something for others. If a person has capacity to donate something to needy, half of the debt of society will be cleared.”

“Let the golden jubilee students fund help to enlighten the lives of many poor children,” wished Bishop.

Managing secretary Fr Lawrence D’Souza said, “Any good work should not suffer due to lack of funds. Money should not be an obstacle for good cause.”

Further recollecting his memory, Fr Lawrence said, “I was worried about declining number of students in the school due to financial problem. So we started to raise funds for the dropout students. At the end of life, God will count what help we extended to others rather than what we accomplished in life. People are servants not owners in society.”

Speaking on the occasion, Melwyn Mendonsa said, “It was a long term effort made by Bahrain Konkans, and finally Milagres College made this happen. One must have concern for his home town.”

He thanked all people who are utilizing the funds for a cause.

Dr Fr Prakash Anil Castlino, campus director, Vincent Sequeira, former principal Dr Gerald among others were present.
Bahrain Konkans team members Melwyn Rodrigues, Kevin Misquith, eminent singer, Lilly Mendonsa, Simon Machado and Presilla Machado were present.

The programme was organized by the Milagres Kallianpur College, Kallianpur. Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo distributed the cheques to beneficiaries.

Principal of the college, Dr Vincent Alva welcomed the gathering. Cyril Mathias, HOD of English department delivered vote of thanks.

Sushmitha compered the programme.
