Mangaluru: Biruver Kudla demands CBI inquiry into Kavya’s death

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (AM)

Mangaluru, Jul 29: Friends Ballalbagh Biruver Kudla, a registered social service organization, on Saturday, July 29, demanded a detailed inquiry by CBI into the 'suspicious' death of Kavya Poojary in Alva's high school hostel. The death has been termed as suicide by the police, however, Kavya's parents and some organizations have expressed suspicions of foul play.

Addressing mediapersons at a private hotel here, Sanketh Poojary, member of Biruver Kudla said, "Many such incidents have taken place in our district. And many of them have remained unsolved. Kavya’s death, which is stated by police and many others as suicide has to be inquired. Police themselves are not sure if Kavya had committed suicide or was murdered. They said that she had committed suicide as she had not got expected marks in a subject. This is not at all possible as she was a courageous sportswoman.

"The voice recording of her final call to her parents clearly suggests that she was not in any kind of mental trauma. Why did the police shift her body to the mortuary before her parents reached to the spot? They were not even given a chance to have a look at her. Police have not followed the normal procedure of shifting the body to a government hospital for post-mortem. The police even said that the saree she used to hang herself belonged to one of the parents who stayed in her room. Who is that parent? Why has she not given any statement on this incident?" he questioned.

"Kavya in her call to her parents has clearly told that the physical training director had called her at 4:30 am the next day for practice. But the institution has dismissed it saying that there is no training at 4:30 am. Kavya was wearing track suit when she was discovered dead in the room. The CCTV footage does not show Kavya entering the hostel. It was just a month-and-a-half since she joined the college. We want Alva's Education Foundation to co-operate in the investigation. We also want a CBI inquiry in this issue. There are so many unanswered questions which have to be solved. We will be forced to hold protests in the coming days if inquiry is not held," he added.

Sahana, member of Biruver Kudla said, "Our fight is not for only this girl. As many as three girls have died under mysterious circumstances in this college from 2013. Kavya is the third one. We want put a full stop to these deaths which have remained unsolved for long. We have nothing against chairman of Alva's Education Foundation, Dr Mohan Alva. All we want is a clean and transparent inquiry to give justice to Kavya’s parents. We want the college to co-operate. The physical training director should be thoroughly inquired.

"According to a few media reports, the college said that Kavya could have wrongly informed her parents that the physical training director had called her at 4:30 am. But if you listen the call recording, it is very clear that she was asking her parents if she could wake up that early. Her parents too are heard asking if she wants an alarm clock. That proves that the physical training director had indeed called her at 4:30 am. The college should also make the CCTV footages public so that the matter is clear," she added.

On a query why Biruver Kudla did not raise the issue for a week, Sahana said, "We were waiting for the police to complete the investigation so that we could have the result. But the police have not done anything to find the culprit out. They have outrightly declared this as a suicide. There are so many questions without answers here. Yes, there are so many investigating agencies in the state. But, have they solved any such cases and delivered justice? Therefore, we want a detailed inquiry by CBI into this matter."

It may be recalled that Kavya (16), an SSLC student and a state-level badminton player, had reportedly committed suicide at her hostel room in Moodbidri near here on the evening of July 20.

In the case filed in Moodbidri police station, it is mentioned that the student had resorted to this extreme step as she was depressed by the low marks she had scored in the recent examination. However, the parents of the girl have made some serious allegations about the behaviour of the officials of the institution, as well suspected the involvement of physical training director of the college in Kavya's death.

Vidya Rakesh, secretary, Biruver Kudla Women's Wing; Sharath Poojary, president, Biruver Kudla Bajpe zone; Ganesh, president, Biruver Kudla Bantwal Zone; members Pranesh Bangera, Vijesh, and Rakesh Poojary were present.

I think valuable evidence have been destroyed.
There was forensic examination at the site where body was found.
I do not trust competency of the Medical officer at Moodbidri PHC who did the post-mortem.
More over these government doctors pressurised by the high profile citizens/politicians/Police dept.
Their report is biased never going to be reliable one.
It happened in all the high profile murder like Sunanada Pushkar where AIMS Forensic Professor was asked give a wrong report.
In Sowjany's death also Post mortem report was totally distorted.
Few years back Rohit Radha Krishnan from AJ Medical Mangalore presumably died in bike accident. Unfortunately they did not find any blood at the site of accident. In fact he died some where due some other cause and his body was brought to the road and made to look like a bike accident.
DK Police have not solved any high profile murder cases.

Death of Kavya will remain a mystery like Sowjanya and Rohi Radha Krishna.

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!! Independent India..... where is all call You as Bharat ma....Worship Godesses as Ma.....and call the Earth as Ma.....and you provide so unsafe environment for a girl child to live in....A girl child is never safe ...even when she is in the womb som many wants to destroy and kill her , if somehow survived and came to existance you destroy her like this.
From 2013 ---- with in the same college campus 3 girls die, to be noted only girls....how it can be possible if its not a mystery...for sure it cab be well planned murder and not a suicide and so called prestigious organizations or rich people can buy or bribe doctors to give fake forensic reports and the cops to give wrong statements and can destroy the evidences and bribe the witnesses...
kavya Suicide case seems to be a well planned murder which is declared as a suicide.. a sincere request to all my native local public to protest againist this mysterious death and we want justice for Kavya and her family and the criminals , culprits to be punished.
Why there is delay in the investigations?
Why CBI cannot be involved to do investigations on this case?
Public awareness is must so that our kids are safe and its our duty to provide them a safe environment to live in....

There are many loop holes in both the parties claims suicide or Murder?
    questioning pro Student about
    1) Is it usual practice of parent to record telecall? and why?
    2) Is there Love angle to case?
    3) What is the Marks scored? how it can impact at the time of incidence?
    4) No sign of tendency of suicide is not Valid reason kids behave normal and hide
next moment commit drastic step. the Parents case is only based on RECORDING and public is taken on that.
    5) 3 deaths in 4 years peer more than lakhs of student needn't point towards institution. But institute should educate student to care more on future and not take such steps.

    Question to Management
    1) How you explain 4.30 am practice that too 4 hr session on week days?
    2) Don't you think it is important to not to pressurize young mind and make the them confident to handle situations.
    3) After 3 death in campus what action management have taken to avoid it?
    4) Do management think importance of saftey and enjoyable education not just pressurized & marks only based system.
    5) Why situation is not handled understanding the sensitivity of bereaved family. No professionalism in handling briefings.

Now there many player have jumped into fray to take advantage of religious and political angles in the background of Election Nationalism and recent riot in DK.

When someone passes away especially such a young girl it is very disturbing ! But we can't just pass our judgement before a proper probe is done ! All Cctv footages are released and everything is almost out in the open ! Let us wait and watch for the results of the probe ! Let us not Give the tv channels the right to conduct trials ! I don't know dr Mohan alva personally but I would advice him not to comment or talk to any tv channels ! I'm proud of some of our Mangalorean media who has reported just the facts ! Once the probe is done I think dr alva should file a defamation suit against all the channels accusing of murder and especially that Robert Rosario who openly on the channel called them murderers

I have heard the audio conversation between Kavya, her mother and others before incident through whatsup, which clearly shows there was absolutely no intention or even suspicious of her death. So, I certainly feel it is not natural death or suicide...

What circumstances made her to take such step, who is behind the pressure on her to take extreme step? if suicide is true college management can not close the case. culprits to be booked cruel S.W officers in the college & wardens in the hostels are trained to act on students roughly and they are given free hand. If Alva's have any love, respect towards students they should have declared holiday the same day. they do not have enough time to spare for her 2 minutes mourning at least. what a culture less education system D.K district is heading. Proper investigation and punishment to the guilty persons only bring full stop to such deaths in the district. same on the college administration.

If this is the third girl dying under mysterious circumstances in this college from 2013. Then there is something fishy in the college. The local police should do a thorough investigation in these mysterious cases, when this happens for the third time or waiting for some more innocent students (girls) to be sacrificed.
