Mangaluru: Mayor Kavita leads demolition drive against encroachment by building

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Jul 28: Mayor Kavita Sanil along with MCC commissioner Mohammed Nazeer and other officials on Friday July 28 conducted a demolition drive near Rao and Rao circle here.

The demolition drive was carried out against an 'illegal' encroachment at Rao and Rao circle. While acquiring the building licence the builders had signed the relinquishment deal according to which they were supposed to hand over a portion of the land to the government. Once the deal is signed by the builders, the said land belongs to the Mangaluru City Corporation after the specified term is over.

During the drive, the compound wall belonging to SKACM society, within which construction is going on, was demolished.

Addressing mediapersons, mayor Kavita Sanil said, "The deal to relinquish this land was signed five years ago. Once the builders sign the relinquish deal, the land belongs to the MCC. But the builders refused to vacate the land until the completion of the building. This issue was also discussed during the council meeting and we cleared our stand. The builder has encroached 10 ft of the MCC land.

"After the builders acquired the land, the road became very narrow resulting in inconvenience to the pedestrian and motorists taking this route. This road will be widened at the earliest in order to help pedestrians and also to avoid further traffic congestion in this area," she added.

Great job by bold woman. Please start using the vacated area for road and foot path as soon as possible. If unattended for few months, it will be encroached again, and all the hard work into drain.
Also look into the cleanliness of market and cow menace in the city as concerned people are not doing their job.

She's just trying to show off. Currently Shashidar Hegde sitting next to her, what he did as former mayor when MG road was concretised? Is MG road complete? Give this answer or do we need another probe on amount sanctioned to work implemented? All drama. Mangalore some person does something nice people praise. Look at the history before spoiling their business. These people have given money to these people from corporation and now they try to escape. Congress rule is at the end including mayor. Shifting from kavoor to Bejai.

Nobody can stop Mayor Kavita in doing her legal work which is for the welfare of the people of Mangaluru city. It was a brave and lawful decision by bold Mayor Kavita to demolish the building which was encroached by some builders. She will need more JCB machines in the near future to weed out more such illegally acquired lands.

We appreciate the Bold action being taken by the current Mayor of Mangalore. We hope she will send out a strong signal to all those violating the building norms and will demolish all the underground commercial spaces created which are meant for parking lots. Cancel all the licences of commercial building where sufficient parking has not been created. Also please send a strong message who are parking their vehicles on the Foot Paths causing inconvenience to the elderly and children who have to walk on the road subjecting their lives to grave danger. Just opposite KMC New Hospital at Jyothi vehicles are parked on the Footpaths with no action. Hope there will be a Footpath Association of Mangalore to safeguard the Footpaths from encroachment and also from Vehicle Parking.

Well done Ma'am. I appreciate the move. Like her if every politicians, bureaucrats works responsibly and unbiased we can definitely improve the condition of our cities. Ma'am take the same JCB machine to our central railway station and demolish that old building before a big tragedy happens. It looks like our MP is mum about this issue even if the portion of the roof concrete collapsed last week resulting in injury to a person. I wish this lady contest for MLA or MP seats from our constituency.

Bold and Beautiful..!! Hats off Kavitha Madam. Keep doing this great job, initiate action against all those who have encroached on pavements n foot paths of our City. Most of them encroach and also dare to place a board " No Parking " in front of their shops when it is a Govt land in fact.
You are the First ever Mayor, ( that I know of at least !!) who has dared to take this initiative, taking action against these. Parking is a major issue in our city, but with what you are trying to do there is always a ray of Hope.
Stay Bold, beautiful and strong and Blessed always.

No Mayor in the history of MCC has taken such a bold step to demolish the illegal encroachments. Shabbas Mayor Saab. Continue your good job and become an exemplary Mayor.Othe r Mayor have come just to have the designation and then to acquire ex-Mayor position. Also take action against the shopping and other complex owners since they have violated building licence rules by converting the car parking area into hotels/shops etc. as Mangalore is lacking parking place in these buildings thus making their customers to park the vehicles on roadside blocking and creating traffic jams in the area. Who have given clearance certificate for such buildings. Take suitable against the concerned who flouted rules.

Root out corruption and illegal activities. All should join hands for good deeds. Only good alone can bring good. Do not leave all the responsibilities to one or two or three officers. All officers work with right attitude. All the departments at least do the duty properly. Then only we can achieve constructive development. Don't be selfish and money minded. Learn give and sacrifice. Then only all will have good. Good is not for only few people who have money and power. Ill gotten richness will never give real peace and happiness. Happy is the one who trades the right path. After all how much one needs for one's livelihood??? Thank you and God bless each and every one of us.
