Udupi: Lorry kills elderly woman waiting for bus near Padubidri

Udupi, Jul 28: In an accident which occurred on national highway 66 opposite Kalyani Bar and Restaurant at Yermal Bada village near Padubidri in the district on Thursday July 27, a woman lost her life. The victim was waiting to catch a bus back home after visiting her ancestral village to perform puja on the occasion of Nagara Panchami festival.

The woman in question has been identified as Janaki S Kotian (60), a resident of Maruti Road in Hejamady village near Padubidri. Janaki was standing by the side of the road when a lorry that was bound for for the city from Mangaluru knocked her down. Janaki was the sister of Hejamady gram panchayat vice president, Sudhakar Karkera.

Because of the force of the accident, Janaki was slammed to the ground, as a result of which her skull, hand and ribs were badly damaged. She was taken to primary health centre at Padubidri but the doctors there found her to have already breathed her last.

A case about the accident was registered in Padubidri police station. Investigation is continuing.

    BAIKAMPADY BUS STOP IS CLASSIC EXAMPLE OF TRAFFIC NUISENCE ON NATIONAL HIGHWAY.

    THERE IS TOTAL MISUSE OF FOOTPATH BY VEHICLE PARKING FOR LOADING & UNLOADING THAT TOO DURING PEAK HOURS HERE & THERE WITHOUT PROPER SYSTEM AS SUCH.

    WE HOPE THE CONCERNED WILL WAKE UP AT LEAST NOW BEFORE ANY MAJOR ACCIDENT
    HAPPENING.

    How sad.Did she ever think that she will never return to her home ?Did the lorry arrested or let go further?Punish him if caught hard punishment .let him pay compansation to her family.May her soul rest in peace.Heartfelt sympathy to her family.

    RIP.
    Thanks for our RTO and traffic police for not stepping up and putting a break on irrelevant drivers. It's true that busses don't stop in Bustop. Bus stop in Mangalore has become cow sheds. We citizens only wake when such an incident happens & give a political colour to it. Let's all unite and stop the private busses operation in DK.

    Blame it all on the Padubidri Shopkeepers Association who have been blocking the widening of highway.

    And one more reason is the pvt busses won't stop in the bus stand. Pvt busses parks on the road either behind the bus stop or little front of the bus stop. If v see in mangalore most off the time ppl won't b in bus stop they ll b standing next to road coz pvt buss stops on the road. These pvt buss ppl block entire road. Police have to b more strict on pvt bus.
