Mangaluru: Second PU student Bindu dies after lorry hits scooter at Nantoor

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SB)

Mangaluru, Jul 27: An accident at Nantoor in the city snatched away the life of a young girl on Thursday July 27.

Bindu, a second-year PU student of a private college in the city, died after a container lorry hit the two-wheeler she was riding pillion in.

It is learnt that Bindu along with her father Maheshwarappa was on her way to a hospital for check-up. When they reached Nantoor, a recklessly driven container lorry bearing Uttar Pradesh registration rammed into Maheshwarappa's scooter.

Maheshwarappa escaped unhurt, while Bindu who was riding pillion got trapped in the tyre.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she breathed her last late in the evening.

The police have arrested lorry driver identified as Sarthaj Husain from UP.

Bindu's father Maheshwarappa, a resident of Konchady here, is the deputy director of cooperative societies audit department.

Bindu was the only daughter to her parents.

Mangaluru East traffic police have registered a case.

Further to my earlier message, traffic department should not allow heavy vehicles inside the city limits. Complete ban of heavy vehicles inside the city should be done which is normal practice in any developed cities of the world.
If we see earlier records we can remember the similar cases of LPG truck hit two wheeler or by passer etc. Again request to the traffic department COMPLETE BAN OF HEAVY VEHICLES INSIDE THE CITY LIMIT

Of course sever punishment should be given.to the reckless drivers.. Normally by some sources we can see the driver in open market soon!
But the traffic department should be strict and in issuing licences especially teo wheelers. A prior classes should be given at least for a month where the department should teach them the complete traffic rules, not the private schools. Top of that how to escape the acidents and to follow safety driving by escaping others' reckless driving of heavy vehicles etc. The department should be very strict and the licensee should be issued only to those 100% perfect and having full knowledge of safety driving instead of just driving. Unfortunately because of some private driving schools by their influence in the traffic department gets licences even one is not having driving experience - its really regrettable, more strict action should be taken against such schools. So the department itself should arrange some driving classes.

Two wheeler riders please don't hurry, you are at big risk. And drivers please keep safe distance from two wheelers, they are in risk.

RIP Bindu. A dream cut short.

The fact that a loss of a life cannot be returned back to the girl's family, but the government can take at least the precautionary measures and this being a port city with lots of heavy vehicles plying on the roads 24/7, is a risk to the native Mangalore ans, who commute either by 2 wheelers or 4 wheelers and this poses a lot of risk and fear of getting killed on the roads. Like other major cities, at least what I know from Hyderabad city rules is that Heavy vehicles are not allowed in the city between 10 p.m. till 6 a.m. I guess, even the passenger buses that go to different cities from Hyderabad are not allowed to get into the city during the wee hours. They have to arrange for a mini van that picks up their bus passengers from a/or specified boarding points from the city to outskirts to board the bigger bus that actually plies to and fro to other cities. So, such a change is a must to this city of not allowing the bigger lorries in the city limits during day time.

Dear Rishi, this road is a national highway right within the city limits. The proposed ring road built around 20 years ago is still in government records ! So the trucks plying between North India and Kerala have to go this way.

Flyover or underpass...anything will do.... that would have saved several young lives in last few years and unbearable grief of parents and friends! Question is who is concerned authority and who is going to do it? For a place like Dubai its just six months for a quality job! For us this type of job could be four to five years, that too substandard job to the core! Contractor will start digging and disappears....reason of rain and shine....re-tender and pocket filling....! Guess we need a dictator to complete such desperately needed jobs, otherwise human sacrifice (bali) every alternative month! Pity!!!!!
We can not complete a railway underpass for past couple of years and what are we capable at? Fighting in the name of minority/ majority, religion, politics and vote?????? Discard people and politicians advocating unrest in the name of religion and culture at least!!!!

I personally stand and agree to the fact of these container carrying trucks are real demons and are very dangerous for the public. Also I must say that the 2 wheelers are too making mistake by doing on urgency.
These container drivers should be punished well, as they never take traffic rules into consideration and driver on the main lane of the traffic. Without proper and strict rules, we shall keep having such kind of accidents and more innocent people shall be killed.
May god give strength to the parents of Bindu and may her soul rest in peace.

Very sad. Traffic department should activiate the traffic signal and ask everyone to follow traffic rules STRICTLY. I have seen many times two wheelers take serious risk at the junction and squeeze. I don't say every one but majority of the two wheelers does. This ultimately leading to death.

Its high time authorities construct flyover in Nantoor. So much of traffic during peak ours. Also a seperate lane for heavy vehicles, ambulance and two wheelers.

Flyover is OK. But what is immediate step. Flyover it take minimum 8 to ten years. What I suggest is now Police must put speed breaker type humps that is strips

very near, nearly 8 to 10 strips on all the roads near nanthoor and any other places. All the vehicles while passing automatically slow and we can save many lives..It may take few jumps on humps never-mind. In GOA because of accidents they have put this strips type humps.in many places.

Tippers are very well known for their speed and wreckless driving. Many deaths have occurred in DK and Udupi districts due to this. Bigger the mightier w/o regard to life. Day time running of tippers should be banned. So are milk vans, newspaper paper vans and express buses. Until corruption doesn't stop they can get away with anything. Stop corruption, punish the guilty severely. But it's wishful thinking as these politicians will never do anything good for the society.

So many accidents have occured in nantoor in the recent past. No action is taken by the traffic department whatsoever. After an accident there will be 3-4 traffic police in nantoor for the next 3-4 days max. Then again the same thing continues. Why can't they put speed breakers? That's the least they can do. No traffic lights too.. Traffic police are there till noon and at times not there at all. Rarely they will be there the entire day. It's saddening to hear this news. Such young beautiful life lost. May her soul rest in peace.
PS: it's high time that some stringent action should be taken.
