Bengaluru, Jul 27: Eagleton Golf Resort in Bidadi will have to pay a penalty of Rs 982 crore to the state government towards the encroachment of 77 acre of government land.

The State Cabinet, which met here on Wednesday July 26, decided to direct the Eagleton Golf Resort in Bidadi to either pay Rs 982 crore to the state government or surrender land to the government.

The decision was taken following directions by the Supreme Court that looked into the encroachment of government land by the resort.

The valuation of the encroached land has been done as per the market rates, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra said.

The Deputy Commissioner of Ramangaram District has been asked to find out whether the private firm has encroached more lands and take steps to recover it.

The resort owner is being allowed to keep 77 acre of land by paying up the market value. If the firm failed to pay the amount, the deputy commissioner has been directed to recover the encroached land, Jayachandra said.
