Chinese state media divided over outcome of Doval's visit

Beijing, Jul 25 (PTI): Ahead of NSA Ajit Doval's visit, China's state media struck two different notes with the China Daily hopeful of a peaceful resolution to the deadlock with India while the Global Times said the "main schemer's" trip wouldn't sway Beijing.

In its editorial, 'It's never too late for India to mend its way', China Daily pressed for exploring ways to avoid confrontation.

The Global Times editorial, 'Doval visit won't sway China over border standoff', said Beijing would not talk until Indian troops were withdrawn.

Doval is to visit China for a meeting of NSAs from BRICS countries - Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa - on July 27-28. He is expected to discuss the standoff with his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi.

Both officials are also the Special Representatives of their countries for the boundary talks.

The military standoff began on June 16 after the Chinese army tried to build a road near the Bhutan trijunction. India has protested the construction of the road, fearing it would allow China to cut India's access to its northeastern states.

"There are still hopes that the deadlock can be resolved peacefully, which serves both countries' best interests," the China Daily said.

Doval's visit is "hoped" to "carry on that slight shift in India's previously bellicose stance", it said, referring to Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar's recent comments that both the countries should not let their "differences become disputes".

"The two sides need to explore ways to avoid confrontation. It would be damaging to both countries and regional stability if India cannot use its reason and wisdom to avoid the military collision both countries are currently on course for," it said.

But The Global Times, part of the Communist Party's publication group, said in its editorial that Beijing will not "talk" until Indian troops were withdrawn.

"As Doval is believed to be one of the main schemers behind the current border standoff between Chinese and Indian troops, the Indian media is pinning high hopes on the trip to settle the ongoing dispute," the daily said.

"New Delhi should give up its illusions, and Doval's Beijing visit is most certainly not an opportunity to settle the standoff in accordance with India's will," it said.

It added that India should not take lightly yesterday's comments by the Chinese Defence ministry that New Delhi should not "harbour any illusions" and withdraw troops.

The two editorials come a day after the Chinese Foreign Ministry hinted that a bilateral meeting between Doval and Yang could happen on the sidelines of a BRICS NSAs' meet.

India has maintained that both the countries withdraw troops from the disputed area and resolve the issue through talks.

Sixteen years ago, militants of Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, a Pakistan-based extremist group, brought India on it knees hijacking Indian Airlines Flight 814 commonly known as IC 814 in Indian airspace. To end the hostage crisis in the Kandahar hijack, then Indian government led by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee surrendered before terrorists and agreed to release three militants, who later planned and executed 9/11 attacks, the kidnap and murder of Daniel Pearl and 2006 Mumbai terror attacks.
The failure of Indian government during the Kandahar hostage crisis has become a blot on Indian history.
When the aircraft landed in Amritsar, armed personnel of the Punjab police were ready to storm into the plane but the Crisis Management Group in Delhi directed them not to do so as it did not want any casualties.
Having no option left, then Foreign Minister Jaswant Singh went Kandahar along with the three terrorists. After the three militants landed in Kandahar, the hostages aboard the flight were freed. On 31 December 1999, the freed hostages were flown back through special plane. The five hijackers departed with a Taliban hostage to ensure their safe passage.
The man who conducted the negotiations with the hijackers was none other than Ajit Doval, who was an Intelligence Bureau Special Director overseeing special operations at that time.
The unilateral blockade imposed by China to put JeM chief Maulana Masood Azhar in al Qaeda sanctions committee of UN as yet another instance of the Modi government’s “failed” policy of tackling terror.
If chief negotiator Ajit Doval didn't 'goofed up' Maulana Masood Azhar never been able to form Jaish-e-Mohammad .During UPA 2 Kashmir is slowly returning back to normal with tourism inflow.Once again 'failed policy' has taken Kashmir to 1990 insurgency. Arunachal Pradesh already formed Chinese territorial and Sikkim is at greater risk. But BJP is busy in increasing political fortune in the North East.

National Security Adviser Ajit Doval is completely out of his depth and unable to formulate a response to the ever increasing problem of defence and security.

The Doval-Ram Madhav's interference in the ministry of external affairs (MEA) has had a disastrous effect. After mismanaging the Pathankot siege in January 2016, Doval foolishly gave Pakistan access to the Indian Air Force base - the first time ever in our history. Pakistan did not reciprocate and later called the entire siege a "false flag operation" by India.

Doval is truly an overhyped NSA advisor thanks to PR and News channel.

Thank Neharu, Gandhi, Mahamad Ali Jinha, Ambedkar and other British educated Gentlemans, There never been a Country called India before them. We had a divided, fractured, mostly muslim & christian controlled and ruled hundreds of small states with never ending poverty, untouchability, cast system, evils like dowry, child marrage and hunger for the majority of people of this Indian sub contenent. India & Pakistan was skillfully created by Neharu & other British educated Congress members. In Indian History We had Glorious Muslim Empires, Powerful British Raj and we never had Hindu empire for the majority Land mass.
