Mangaluru, Jul 25: Chairman of MFAR group, Dr P Muhammed Ali, said that Yenepoya group of institutions have contributed to address social inequality since the last 25 years by providing an opportunity for Muslim girls to get medical education.

He was speaking after taking part in the silver jubilee celebrations of Yenepoya Dental College, 'Yensteller', which was organized at Yendurance Zone in Yenepoya University campus at Deralakatte near here on Monday July 24.

"By inspiring Muslim community to pursue medical education, Yenepoya institutions have created lacs of medical professionals all over the country. Within the next ten years, we can expect Yenepoya group to rise to the posititon of being one among the top ten best institutions imparting medical education in the nation. Considering the achievements these institutions have made during the last 25 years, reaching this level does not seem to be difficult. The Indian system of surgery, which began with father of medicines, sage Charaka, has now been occupied by mechanized and computerized surgeries," he stated.

"A doctor sitting in a far away room can operate on a patient in a hospital in another country by making use of modern technology. Yenepoya, by installing such technology in its hospital, has given testimony for its stellar achievement. Medical students work with human lives. Therefore, this is one sector where margin for errors has no place. Books can teach us only the techniques but one should keep his heart and mind in readiness to achieve perfection and strengthen one's mental faculty and self confidence. Medical sector is highly respected by the society, and the students have the responsibility to make sure that this respect and honour does not get eroded," he said.

Head of neck and head surgeries, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, Dr Anil D Cruz, who was the guest of honour, in his address, noted that cancer was less prevalent about 20 to 30 years back. "As of now, about 25 percent people suffer from oral cancer. Dental care specialists can only stop spreading of this disease by working to regulate this disease by continuous monitoring, stopping and treating it," he stat ed. Noting that there have been fast paced changes in every sector, he called upon the youth to get adjusted to these changes and move ahead.

Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi, who presided over the programme, said that the completion of 25 years of existence by Yenepoya Dental College is a culmination of the dream of his father, Yenepoya Moidin Kunhi. He also felt that this is an opportunity to work to complete the aims and objectives of his father. "We are proud to have succeeded in creating a new generation that is both humane and compassionate. But we could cover the distance from Yenepoya Dental College to Yenepoya University because of the fact we undertook this journey together as a team. For the first time in coastal Karnataka, we have started robotic surgical service through which we have performed over a hundred surgeries. Our next aim is to make sure that every member of the society is able to get latest medical facility at affordable cost. As part of our future plan, we will set up Ayush complex at Kinya here where all types of Indian systems of medical services would be made available," he stated.
