Udupi, Jul 25: A youth who had told his friends about his determination to swim to the other side of the river, failed to meet the challenge as his body did not support his ambition.

Prashanth Naik (23), son of Bukkigudde Bachcha Naik from Perdoor near Brahmavar in the taluk, had ventured out with some of his friends on Sunday, July 23 evening for the stated purpose of fishing.

Once the friends reached Dasabettu riverbank, Prashanth said he could swim across the river and reach the other bank. He ventured into the water near the hanging bridge that has been built at Dasabettu. However, by the time he reached midway, he became too exhausted. As his limbs did not live up to his determination, Prashanth drowned in the river.

Although a search for the youngster's body was launched immediately, his mortal remains could not be found till Monday evening. It was found at Havanje near Brahmavar after the rescue team searched since Sunday.
