Udupi: Hit by car, scooter rider dies, wife seriously injured

Udupi, Jul 25: A Maruti Swift car hit a Honda Matrix scooter from behind, opposite Upachar Hotel at Padubidri Beedu on the night of Sunday July 23. The scooter was moving towards Karnad from the direction of Padubidri when this tragic accident happened.

Yashwant G Sanil (62) from Mulky Karnad, who was riding the scooter, suffered critical injuries to his waist and head in the accident. He died when being taken to a hospital at Mangaluru. Sanil's wife, Vasanthi (55), suffered multiple injuries including bone fracture. She is being treated at a private hospital at Mangaluru.

Sanil and his wife were returning home after visiting their daughter living in Padubidri. Sanil was employed as offset printer for Prasad Printers, Kulshekar, Mangaluru.

It is gathered that the couple's 29-year-old son, Nishikanth, had died 18 months back when crossing the road at Mulky after an unidentified vehicle hit him.

A case about the accident, in which the Swift car driver has been accused of rash driving, was filed at Padubidri station. The matter is under investigation.
