Bengaluru, Jul 22: The home department of the state was instructed on Friday July 21 by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the state legislature, which is headed by former deputy chief minister and BJP MLA, R Ashoka, to suspend from service people who provided unreasonable facilities to AIADMK  general secretary, Sasikala, at Parappana Agrahara prison in the city. It also sought a detailed report from principal secretary in home department, P K Garg, within 15 days about irregularities in the  prisons in the state including the central prison here.

At the committee's session held in the Vidhana Soudha premises, senior prison department officials appeared before the committee. The members of committee sought to know how Sasikala was allotted five rooms in the prison. Additional director general of prisons, N S Megharikh, and d eputy inspector general of prisons, H S Revanna, who were present, confessed that they had taken charge recently, and assured to file a report about the irregularities within a few days.

It may be recalled that a recent report submitted by IPS officer, D Roopa, which contained bribery allegation against prison officials in return for providing additional facilities to Sasikala, had given rise to upheavals. She has since been transferred out of prisons department.

Many of the allegations made by Roopa had found a mention in a report submitted by Comptroller and Auditor General last year. Members of PAC questioned the prison department officials for failing to act on the recommendations of CAG and doing nothing on the report since over a year.
