Bengaluru: Congress in Karnataka to invoke Indira Gandhi's name for assembly polls

Bengaluru, Jul 21 (PTI) : Ruling Congress in Karnatakais planning to invoke the legacy of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, one of its tallest leaders, in her centenary year as its seeks to retain power in next year's assembly polls.

The party will be celebrating Gandhi's hundredth birth anniversary in November by organising a string of activities including 'pada yatra (march)' in all the assembly segments under the title "Indiramma-100."

Announcing booth-to-state level activities inpreparation to the assembly polls, the party said a "controlroom" would be set up at the party headquarters to monitor day-to-day progress in poll preparation work.

"... from November 1 to 18 in all the assembly constituencies, the party will organise pada yatra (march), during which we will try to apprise people of the achievements of the state government and failures of the(BJP-led) central government, along with Indira Gandhi's contributions," state Congress chief G Parameshwara said.

Stating that a mega event will be organised in thestate capital on her birthday on November 19, he said "allthese programmes will be held under the slogan 'Congress- serving masses, in the footsteps of Indira' and'Indiramma-100'."

Parameshwara was speaking to reporters after the meeting of 171 newly appointed office bearers which wasattended by general secretary in-charge of the state K CVenugopal, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and other party leaders.

Congress, which has announced Siddaramaiah as its face for the 2018 assembly polls,is also conducting a survey to collect data to help it selectcandidates and decide the electoral strategy.

The party today allotted responsibilities to allthe office bearers in the run up to assembly elections by appointing one vice president as in-charge for each district.

Also, one or two general secretaries will be assigned for each district, and each secretary will be given the responsibility of two assembly constituencies.

Parmeshwara said party's two working presidents S RPatil and Dinesh Gundu Rao have been given responsibilities oftwo revenue divisions each.

While Patil will hold responsibility of Belagavi and Kalburgi divisions, Gundu Rao will take care of Mysuru and Bengaluru divisions.

Parameshwara also said by August end party will be appointing booth level agents at about 70,000 booths in the state and will constitute booth committies, along with Panchayat and ward committees.

He said from September onwards the booth committeeswill start door-to-door campaign to highlight the achievements of the Congress government in the state and failures of the BJP- led government at the Centre.

"Our slogan for this door-to-door campaign will be: Congress march topeople once again," he added.

The slogan (in Kannad), resembles similar exercise carried out by the party ahead of 2014 assembly polls.

Stating that in October the party will be organising district-level conferences, Parameshwara said after Indira Gandhi centenary celebrations in November "we will once again start our booth-level reach-out programme in December.

He said 'accountability' will be fixed for all office bearers and to monitor their activities a control roomwill be set up at the state headquarters.

The control room will alsoprovide inputs and guidance to all the activities at theground level.

We need to see the achievements of our leaders, present and past NOT by their party affiliation but by the standard, dignity and leadership rendered not only to our great democracy but also in the international politics.
Mrs. Indira Gandhi had a vision, to make India Great. Mrs. Gandhi succeeded!
When Henry Kissinger, Secretary of State of the United States brought the 7th Fleet (U.S. Naval Fleet) during the Bangladesh war, it was reported that there was concern in the Parliament. It was reported that some one said, "Don't worry, we have MIG. They were NOT referring to the sophisticated Russian jet fighters the Indian Air Force had. They in fact, were referring to Mrs. Indira Gandhi (MIG!).
PLEASE DON'T JUDGE OUR LEADERS THOUGH POLITICALLY BIASED LENS.
MRS. iNDIRA GANDHI WAS INDEED A GREAT LEADER, WHO WAS FLUENT IN ENGLISH AND FRENCH.
    Be blessed!

Good Said. Please all be ready to welcome BJP this time with Warm Welcome. What an Achievement of BJP in previous rule. Last tenure they gifted State with 3 CM's and only BJP can maintain this ha trick record. This time get ready to welcome 6 CM's in their tenure if they get elected. This will be their gift for the State instead of development.

Who can doubt the contribution of Indira Gandhi for making India a respectable nation among the countries of the world? In contrast what is Modi's contribution? His only contribution is double talk, selling the county to Adnanis and other Corporations, threatening leaders and opponents, hatred towards minorities and dalits, visiting foreign countries at the expense of taxpayers. There is no way Congress can be defeated with such bad legacy of the BJP. Modi, Yeddy, Shobha and Nalini
