Mangaluru, Jul 21: A day-long convention of the beneficiaries of 'Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana' will be held at Bantara Bhavana, Bantwal on July 23.
Addressing mediapersons at Hotel Ocean Pearl on Thursday, July 21, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel gave the details of the programme and also spoke about the new plan 'Ujjwala Plus' and said, "Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee led NDA government introduced the idea of supplying cooking gas to every family with government subsidy. UPA government then decided how many cylinders should be given to each family. Prime minister Narendra Modi led government requested the public to give up their LPG subsidy. People responded in a positive manner. Now the union government can provide free cooking gas to people below poverty line (BPL)."
"As many as 8 crore families will be benefited by 'Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana'. In Dakshina Kannada, 51,000 people will be the beneficiaries of this plan. Hence, we planned a convention at Bantwal for new beneficiaries who are eligible for this plan. We will create awareness about the usage of LPG and will distribute free gas stoves at the convention," he added.
"The union government will introduce another plan 'Ujjwala Plus' for BPL card holders, for those families who applied for the card after 2011. This programme will be launched on August 15," he concluded.
